The Rise and Fall of Prohibition: Now at the Constitution Center

The Philly PR Girl team recently accepted an invitation to tour the National Constitution Center’s new exhibit, American Spirits: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition.  I love this era and have been known to frequently dress up as a “Flapper” for Halloween.  This was a must see exhibit for me!

The exhibit began in October and runs through April 28, 2013, so there is still plenty of time to step into the era of flappers and bootleggers!  Prohibition was such an important time in U.S. history that effected the social, political, and economic environment.  The underground liquor industry run by bootleggers became a huge illegal crime scene.  If you watch HBO’s Boardwalk Empire you’ve gotten a glimpse of what that world was like.  The prohibition era ended in 1933 as enforcement upon the law became ineffective and non-existent.

The National Constitution Center has over 100 rare artifacts on display, including original ratification copies of the 18th and 21st Amendments.  You can also find flapper dresses, films, photos, and even a recreated speakeasy where you can learn the Charleston step by step.  My favorite part was the “line up.”  Of course I posed… while I’m a little worried because Victoria looked like a real criminal!  We had a blast and I strongly encourage you to go visit while this exhibit is still in our backyard.
