Philly Museum Guide: Summer 2021 Edition

With things finally re-opening in Philadelphia, some of Philly’s best museums are now open! Whether you’re planning to visit the city, or just want to check out a new exhibit, there’s something for everyone! We’ve put together a list of some of Philadelphia’s best museums and exhibits to check out this summer.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art – New Grit: Art & Philly Now

The Philadelphia Museum of Art’s newest exhibit features 25 pieces that showcase various art forms. From paintings, photography, and dance, there is something for everyone. The exhibit includes pieces from emerging and well-established artists from Philadelphia’s own art scene. New Grit: Art & Philly Now is currently on display till August 22nd, 2021.

The African American Museum in Philadelphia – Anna Russell Jones: The Art of Design

Currently, on display, this exhibit celebrates some of Anna Russell Jones’ best works. Jones is an alumni of Moore College of Art and Design, formally known as the Philadelphia School of Design for Women. Jones was the first African American graduate of the school. The exhibit is on display till September 12, 2021.

The Franklin Institute – Crayola IDEAworks: The Creativity Exhibition

This interactive exhibit is designed to unleash your creativity. Attendees are able to pitch products, design digital clothes, plant virtual gardens, and so much more! Perfect for kids, but all ages above five are welcome to attend. The Creativity Exhibition runs till July 18th, so secure your tickets before it’s too late!

Wonderspaces Philadelphia

If you haven’t already visited Wonderspaces, now is the time to go! Wonderspaces partners with artists to showcase new and exciting works. Currently, there are 15 works on display, including 5 new pieces since the Philadelphia location has opened. Be sure to go check out Erupture, by Nicole Banowetz, one of their newest works.

The Philadelphia Insectarium and Butterfly Pavilion

Looking for a unique museum experience? Then look no further! The Philadelphia Insectarium features a 7,000 square foot butterfly pavilion, where butterflies fly free. Watch caterpillars grow into butterflies in their chrysalis chamber, or check out their collection of arachnids and insects.
