Philly PR Girl’s Giving Tuesday Guide

Happy Giving Tuesday, Philly!

With the holiday season underway, we want to celebrate Giving Tuesday—the concept of sharing with others. If you want to give back, Philly PR Girl created a list of local Philadelphia nonprofits you can get involved with! These charities not only help better our community but empower others to spread kindness and generosity as well. Keep reading to learn about their missions and see how you can participate in this year’s Giving Tuesday.

Dimplez 4 Days: In 2016, 13-year-old Akayla Brown founded Dimplez 4 Dayz, a youth-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering the youth voice and reducing youth violence in Philadelphia by promoting the resources and programs that can enable young people to build confidence and fulfill their potential.  The meaning behind the name and our cause is to support and encourage individuals to smile behind adversity, turning dreams into reality. Dimplez 4 Dayz has grown into an impactful nonprofit organization, supporting over 5,000 families in Philadelphia through various community outreach programs and partnering with other organizations to build youth programs to facilitate positive change within their families and communities.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence Region: Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence Region is a donor-supported organization that enriches, encourages, and empowers children to reach their highest potential through safe, one-to-one mentoring relationships. You’re able to donate on their website to help empower kids in our community to achieve their full potential.

Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation: The Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation, Inc., is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization created as a tribute to the life, character, and immense strength of Sandy Rollman. Their mission is to fight for those who are fighting, speak for those who have fallen silent, and provide for those who are working towards the end of ovarian cancer. For Giving Tuesday, they wanted to change it up. Instead of asking for donations, they want to give back to their supporters. 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of their largest event, the Sandy Sprint 5K Run/Walk Philadelphia. Registration for the 20th Anniversary Sandy Sprint Philadelphia will open on Giving Tuesday with a $5 discount.

The Darren Daulton Foundation: The Darren Daulton Foundation provides financial assistance to those suffering from primary malignant brain tumors. The Darren Daulton Foundation was born out of the late Phillies Player, Darren Daulton’s love and inspiration for serving and helping others. The organization provides grants to families struggling to meet their financial obligations due to their diagnosis, and since its inception, The Foundation has granted over $250,000.00 to more than 100 people. Visit their website to send a donation.

The Junior League of Philadelphia: The Junior League of Philadelphia, Inc. (JLP) is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. You can donate on their website to contribute to the Annual Fund, which provides essential support to help the JLP meet its Mission of promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the Philadelphia community.

Kutest Kids’ Parents as Teachers: This program is an affiliate of the international PAT organization. KKPAT’s mission is to inspire and support caregivers and children as they build healthy relationships within their family unit. They meet families in their safe spaces to share their skills and work as a team with caregivers to empower them to be their children’s best first teachers. Kutest Kids’ Parents as Teachers hosts monthly events with bonding activities and exercises and access to the KKPAT Store where parents can use “KKPAT Kash” they earned from their home visit in exchange for necessary household items.

Philadelphia Youth Sports Collaborative: PYSC works to create equitable access for all children to high-quality sports-based youth development programs through training, advocacy, infrastructure, and community building. The Collaborative serves Philadelphia’s sports-based youth development ecosystem as an intermediary providing technical and capacity-building services to SBYD organizations that directly serve youth. The Collaborative also serves as a backbone organization that convenes diverse stakeholders to align a citywide effort to provide high-quality sports experiences for all of Philadelphia’s young people. You can support the Philadelphia Youth Sports Collaborative this Giving Tuesday by heading to their website and donating time and resources to their various advocacy efforts in the city for Philadelphia Youth.

The Germantown Arts District: The Germantown Arts District is dedicated to fostering the arts in our community.  With Giving Tuesday finally here, the GAD is launching a dynamic campaign called Art in the Heart of Germantown to raise funds for their upcoming Art Festival in April 2024. The GAD Team hopes that funds raised by the community during Giving Tuesday will help to support the Art Festival’s goals of amplifying community engagement, raising awareness of their initiatives, fostering a sense of collective responsibility, and increasing GAD membership.

In the comments below, let us know how you will participate in this year’s Giving Tuesday. We hope everyone had a fun and eventful Thanksgiving, and be sure to follow us on social media to stay updated on all things Philly!
