Celebrate Giving Tuesday This Year

Every Tuesday after Thanksgiving, we celebrate Giving Tuesday. With the holiday season underway, Giving Tuesday celebrates the concept of sharing with others. Philly PR Girl has a list of local Philadephia nonprofits to work with. These charities not only help better our community but empower others to give back as well.  Keep reading to learn how you can participate in this year’s Giving Tuesday.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence enriches, encourages and empowers children to reach their highest potential through safe, one-to-one mentoring relationships. They create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth, while working collaboratively to strengthen the quality of the mentoring field and close the mentoring gap. In 2016, 13-year-old Akayla Brown founded Dimplez 4 Dayz, a youth-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering the youth voice and reducing youth violence in Philadelphia by promoting the resources and programs that can enable young people to build confidence and fulfill their potential.  The meaning behind the name and our cause is to support and encourage individuals to smile behind adversity, turning dreams into reality. Dimplez 4 Dayz has grown into an impactful nonprofit organization, supporting over 5,000 families in Philadelphia through various community outreach programs and partnering with other organizations to build youth programs to facilitate positive change within their families and communities.

 

Action Wellness

Action Wellness enhances the lives of individuals living with HIV and other serious chronic illnesses by providing holistic and trauma-informed health, prevention, and supportive services. The agency empowers those it serves to rise beyond the barriers of disease to achieve wellness and increased stability within the community. The Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation, Inc, is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization created as a tribute to the life, character, and immense strength of Sandy Rollman. Their mission is to fight for those who are fighting, speak for those who have fallen silent and provide for those who are working towards the end of ovarian cancer. Learn about the various ways you can help support their mission and vision!

Dawn’s Place has been a pioneer in offering a safe and caring residential setting for survivors of commercial sexual exploitation (CSE) or sex trafficking. Their vision is to provide a new beginning for survivors through our residential program which can accommodate eight women in private bedrooms. Dawn’s Place offers an opportunity for women to pursue healing and a purpose in life. The comprehensive, individualized program at Dawn’s Place addresses the trauma endured by women who have been exploited for sex.  They also attend to the myriad other issues related to CSE that impact women’s lives: substance abuse and mental health disorders, legal and educational concerns, future occupation, housing, and family relationships.
