  • If you’ve been missing the cold weather, I have some good news for you: Tarken Ice Rink is open to the public! The Northeast Philly rink is holding a public skate session on Mondays from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Feel free to bring your own skates or rent a pair for $3. Be sure to sign up ASAP, drop-ins are prohibited!
  • Philadelphia has a rich history, but most of the tours and attractions revolve around the Founding Fathers. Learn more about the suffrage movement at Making Her Mark: Philadelphia Women Fight for the Vote. This self-guided tour is held at the Parkway Central Library, which is located right off of the Ben Franklin Parkway, across from Logan Square. Making Her Mark is free but registration is required.

May 25

  • Indulge in your sweet tooth at Chef Carmelo’s Classic French Macaron class! The classically trained pastry chef will help you make this classic French cookie step by step. No experience required, and the equipment and ingredients are provided! All you need to do is purchase tickets
  • Did you know that May is National Strawberry Month? Don’t worry, there’s still time to celebrate: Peddler’s Village’s Strawberry Festival lasts until May 31st. In addition to the year-round gardens and shopping, Peddler’s Village is serving over 20 specialty foods and drinks (all of which include strawberries, of course).

  • Have a peaceful night with Yoga on the Pier! From 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., there will be a free yoga class at Pennyback on the Delaware Park. All ages and skill levels are welcome, just make sure to bring your own mat and wear a mask!
  • Here’s a tongue twister for you: test out your trivia skills at Top Tomato! Each Wednesday night, Top Tomato Bar & Pizza hosts a quizzo night. If that isn’t enough to peak your interest, the bar also has tons of quizzo specials, like the $12 El Corazon margarita, pizza slice and fries deal. Trivia starts at 7 p.m. and make sure to be punctual because tables fill up fast!

May 27

  • Take a break from your busy week at the Barnes Presents! West Philly Healing Circle. Spend the night engaging in various wellness and mindfulness events. Starting at 5:30, reiki, yoga and tai chi classes will be offered. There will also be live music!
  • If you are vaccinated, then you can get a free Krispy Kreme donut every single day.  Yep, you read that right—Krispy Kreme is giving away free donuts to vaccinated people until the end of the year. Just make sure to bring your vaccination card! It does not matter if you have one dose or two. Sadly there aren’t any Krispy Kremes in the city, but there are three nearby in Havertown, Bensalem and Collingswood.

May 28

  • Feeling classy? Attend 4th Friday Wine & Cheese at Sol Garden Studio! Like the name implies, there will be plenty of wine and cheese tasting. In addition to all of that, there will be art installations and guest speakers too! Sol Garden Studio requires advance registration and that guests wear masks the entire time.
  • Summertime in Philly equals lots of beer gardens and pop ups! MAAS’ Garden Bar combines the best of both worlds. This pop up in Ludlow is serving drinks from Fergie’s Pub and wood fired pizza from ParmaJawn Pizza. Garden Bar opens at 5 p.m. and a DJ will be performing from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Also, dogs are welcome!

May 29

  • April showers bring May flowers and that is certainly true at the Celebration of Roses Festival! At the festival, you can take a tour of Wyck’s 200 year old rose garden which is filled with over 50 kinds of heritage roses. If you aren’t familiar, all roses from before 1867 are classified as heritage roses. These are rare, more fragrant and brighter than modern roses! There are no tickets and the event is free, all you have to do is show up!
  • You aren’t a foodie unless you’ve eaten in East Passyunk. Both Food and Wine and Philadelphia Magazines have applauded the neighborhood’s dining options. Embark on the Highlights of East Passyunk Food Tour and sample three restaurants’ best dishes! The tour runs from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., make sure to snag a ticket before they sell out!

May 30

  • Spend your sunday at one of the Food Trust’s largest farmers’ markets! Headhouse Farmers Market has over 50 vendors from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Head on down to 2nd and Lombard Streets and grab anything from cider to pasta!
  • The Garden Railway is now open for the season! Experience a whole new world inside of the Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania. The Garden Railway consists of miniature buildings, model trains and lots of nature! On weekends, the exhibit is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

As summer approaches and COVID restrictions easing up, there seems to be more events than ever before! Just remember that Philly is keeping the indoor mask mandate and to be mindful of events’ specific COVID policies.
