How to Support Lupus Awareness Month in Philly

Paint the city of Philadelphia purple because May is Lupus Awareness Month! This month, take the time to educate yourself and others on the impact that lupus has. Nearly two-thirds of people know little to nothing about this autoimmune disease. According to lupus.org, “10 to 15% of people with lupus will die prematurely due to complications.” Due to improved diagnosis and disease management, most people with the disease go on to live a normal life. Each year, Philly hosts fundraisers to find a cure. Check out these charitable events that’s making a difference in the lupus community.

Become A Member

Established in 1977, The Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) was set out to educate and support those affected by Lupus and to find a cure. This national force supports research, education, awareness, patient services, and advocacy. The foundation’s Philadelphia Tri-State Chapter serves southeastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, and southern New Jersey.

If you’d like to help without becoming a member, become an activist and help pass federal legislation that will benefit people with lupus. Volunteers are needed for event staff, patient and community service committees, office support, and more! Read about the many volunteer opportunities here. Be sure to subscribe to Lupus Line for updates on how to support the many local programs and services for those affected. Plus, purchase your LFA merchandise to wear throughout the year as you spread awareness.
