Women’s History Month #WCW | Meredith Greimel

In 2012, Meredith Greimel’s life took an unexpected turn that began with a foot injury. This gave her a lot of time that she used to explore her creativity. Turns out, she was pretty good at making things with her hands and found a passion for sustainable upcycling. She began making hand-knit accessories made from recycled bicycle inner tubes. This eventually led to creating handmade jewelry and floral arrangements. After noticing Philadelphia’s lack of environmental awareness and community involvement, she created Beaucycled.

Building a Brand & Community

Located in Philadelphia, PA and Hoboken, NJ, Beaucycled’s mission is to be an ever-evolving brand that unites community, craftsmanship, and sustainable care. Meredith noticed that Philadelphia didn’t have many spaces to be creative and meet new people outside of the bar scene. She felt like that needed to change. With events like pop-up succulent workshops, Beaucycled has encapsulated nostalgia and sustainability suitable for all ages to enjoy.

Since 2016, the “Plant Party” has taken the city by storm. Beaucycled has hosted their signature workshops at fun venues throughout the city including Frankford Hall, Morgan’s Pier, PHS South Street Beer Garden, and more. These events are the perfect after-work activity, new twist to happy hour, or great place to meet new friends. You’ll even find them at the top of Philadelphia Magazine’s list of great hobbies to take up. In just less than two year, the “Plant Party” has hosted over 7,000 guests!

Upcoming Workshops

The next DIY workshop is Wednesday, March 21 at Gringo’s in Jersey City, NJ. Beaucycled is making a return appearance with a Cactus Cantina at 7 p.m. All you need to bring is yourself. Materials and supplies will be provided, as well as your first drink!

Philadelphia, mark your calendars for Tuesday, April 10. Big Beers & Bigger Planters workshop is coming to Frankford Hall at 7 p.m. Select from larger vintage planters that can fit multiple assorted succulents in them.

For more event updates (and major #plantenvy), follow Meredith and the Beaucycled team on the company’s website, Instagram, and Facebook.

More Than Just Succulents

If the DIY or green-thumb route isn’t for you, Beaucycled still has you covered with personalized designs. Ranging from jewelry to cozy knits, all the modern-vintage products are created with care in a Northern Liberties studio. You can find them available online via the Etsy page or at select Whole Foods in the Greater Philadelphia area.

Meredith is our #WCW (and every day!) because of her love for Philadelphia and her desire to contribute to the city’s sustainability. Her sense of community is admirable; creates spaces for Philly locals to be their full creative selves while educating them on how to fine tune their green thumbs. Beaucycled is a group of #girlbosses, and we can’t wait to see what Meredith and the team will do next!
