“Connect our community, produce the Philadelphia Film Festival, and keep it cheap!”  That’s the motto of the Philadelphia Film Society, who brings the city of brotherly love the Philadelphia Film Festival every year.  “As a non-profit arts organization, the Philadelphia Film Society depends on financial support from individuals, foundations, and corporations to fulfill our mission of promoting film as a powerful means for strengthening community education, understanding, and outreach.”  Their mission statement is fulfilled every year.  The PFS provides year-round programming including the Philadelphia International Children’s Film Festival coming up in November.

Ending this weekend, the Philadelphia Film Festival is an eleven-day event of movies, networking and excitement.  In it’s 22nd year of tradition, this extravaganza is held at various venues within Old City, University City and Center City Philadelphia.  Although PFF is mostly about the art of filmmaking, there are a few coveted awards lusted after, including Best Narrative Feature, the Amtrak Audience Award, and the Sharon Pinkenson Award for Best Local Feature.  Competitive drive and anticipation make each of the eleven days more exciting than the one preceding

The Philly PR Girl team attended many of the PFF events! A few of our favorite films were Last Vegas directed by Jon Turteltaub and Tasting Menu directed by Roger Gual.  Last Vegas is full of huge stars like Morgan Freeman and Robert De Niro.  It’s about a group of lifelong friends gear up for a bachelor party in Vegas.  Needless to say, hilarity ensues.  Tasting Menu is a heartfelt story of a separated couple, who are seeing each other for the first time in years at a restaurant reservation that they made months before they split.  This restaurant was claimed best in the world, having all of the most exclusive guests in attendance.  Mystery and surprise always grace the dinners and their night was no exception.

Fantastic films highlighted at the festival this year included: About Time, Vic+Flo Saw a Bear, The Short Game, and many more!  The Closing Night Extravaganza took place on October 25th.  Beginning with the Award Ceremony and closing night of Labor Day, guests will be blown away with festivities and anticipation.  Afterwards attendees stopped by the closing night party at R2L Restaurant and Lounge in Center City to celebrate another year of fantastic films.   It was great to see everyone support the Philadelphia film community.  For more information on the Philadelphia Film Society visit: http://filmadelphia.org/.
