It’s a CinéSPEAK October

Nothing beats a cozy movie night in the fall. Lucky for you, cinéSPEAK is offering exciting film events throughout the season at various locations in Philly. Grab your friends or plan a cute date and enjoy one of cinéSPEAK’s many fall showings.

cinéSPEAK is a Philly-based cinema that engages diverse audiences through contemporary, independent film programming in an effort to highlight stories that are often underrepresented in mainstream cinema.

 

Thursday October 20 

Visit the Rotunda in University City to watch Saloum (2021), a Senegalese horror-thriller film directed by Congolese director Jean Luc Herbulot about a trio of mercenaries that become embroiled with malevolent supernatural forces. Click here for tickets!

 

Friday October 28

Interested in the spiritual realm? On Halloween Weekend at Pentridge Station Pop-Up, the featured films are Teine Sā (2021), an anthology of New Zealand horror shorts about ancient Polynesian goddesses who are evoked into the modern world and “OURIKA!” (2022), a glamorously surreal sci-fi short film, deconstructing the old tale of a Senegalese girl who was enslaved by a French aristocrat. Want fun for the whole family? cinéSPEAK is hosting a FREE all ages movie night and community party! Bring your costumes and participate in a spooky story time & costume contest. Register here!

 

Monday October 31: 

Experience Bill Gunn’s revolutionary horror film “Ganja And Hess” (1973) at Bartram’s Garden with a special in-person appearance from the film’s original composer Sam Waymon. The film explores sex, religion, and African American identity to tell the story of two lovers turned vampires. 25% of all ticket sales will donated to Prevention Point. Click here for tickets!
