It’s Soup Season: Guide to the Best Comfort Soup in Philadelphia

The air is nippy, you have to defrost your car in the morning, and winter is in full effect. When it’s freezing outside, nothing is better than warming up with some comfort food, especially soup. Soup season is here and we’ve gathered up some of the best restaurants to get a good bowl of soup from.

 

  • First up is Broth Thyme which is located on 13th street. They have a total of 16 soups and 4 broths to choose from. Some of their soups include Roast Garlic and Cauliflower, French Onion, Broccoli Cheddar, and of course Chicken Noodle Soup. One of their most popular is the Tomato Cream which has caramelized onions, fresh tomatoes, herbs, and more. 

 

  • With 4.4 stars, Dan Dan in Rittenhouse Square is a local favorite. This Sichuan and Taiwanese restaurant has unique soups your tastebuds will adore. They have a West Lake Beef Soup with beef, cilantro, soy sauce, and more. If you’re looking for soups with a personality, Dan Dan is your place. 

 

  • Sampan is a Pan Asian restaurant with a good variety of entrees to choose from. Although they only have one soup dish on their menu, it’s worth going for. Their General Tso Dumpling Soup has chicken, ginger, and garlic. This sweet and savory soup is definitely a must-have when dining at Sampan.

 

  • Love seafood and the flavors that come along with it? The Oyster House features 3 different soups on its menu. They have the Manhattan Clam Chowder, New England Clam Chowder, and Snapper Turtle Soup. For under $13 you can dine in a beautiful restaurant and enjoy good quality soup rich with flavor. 

 

  • If you’re in the mood for a simple comforting bowl of soup that tastes like the one your mom or grandma used to make, Sabrina’s Cafe is your spot. They have two different soups available on their menu. They have their Soup of the Day which changes frequently and they also have their Mum Mum’s Chicken Noodle Soup. College students, as well as all the other locals, love their soup. 

 

  • If you’re not in the area and perhaps traveling, New Jersey has a restaurant called Simply Soup that’s worth stopping for. All of their entrees are deliciously homemade. Not only will you be getting a good quality bowl, but you’ll also be tasting authentic ingredients and flavors.
