Philly Winter Fashion Trends

Winter is in full effect in Philadelphia, and we love it here at Philly PR Girl! We are staying warm and enjoying all the fun festivities, from Ice skating at Blue Cross RiverRink and exploring the Art Museum to even indulging in hot drinks from beloved local coffee shops; there is something for everyone to enjoy. But the big dilemma we all face is what to wear to these outings. Trends can be hard to keep up with, especially with the busyness of a new year. That’s why we have curated a list of top Philly Winter trends 2024 that everyone can easily purchase, comfortably afford, and pull off in style.

Pop of Red: If you have been feeling uninspired or drab, try adding a pop of red to your wardrobe. This season, red has been reimagined into the ultimate shade of statement pieces. Try stopping by South Street for something second hand, where you can find places like; Retrospect, B-Bop Vintage, Catch and Release Outfitters, or The Raxx Vintage Emporium and experiment with your style. Consider adding a pop of Philly PR Girl Red with a shoe, pants, sweater, or an accessory. From dark crimson to bright ruby, these shades will serve as a statement.

Leather Accessories: We are bundling up and buying patent leather! Staying warm and cute has never been a greater challenge this year.  Philadelphians haven’t experienced snow in almost two years, which means it’s finally time to invest in those leather gloves for your weekday commute and a new or thrifted (for our sustainability queens) oversized leather coat for your weekends. Look for your leather layers in a combination of vintage and brand new stores from Chestnut Street neighbors, 2nd Street, and Uniqlo. By wearing leather, you don’t have to sacrifice a sleek look to stay warm.

Buildable Basics: There are levels to layering, and this season is no different. Our Philly friend, Priyanka from @paintthetownchic, shares with us in her content all of the fun ways to create new styles this winter. The concept of staples has long lived in the realm of fashion and is also practiced here in Philly. The girlies all wear plain form-fitted long sleeves, relaxed denim, and donning kitten heels for all occasions. From casual to high class, these pieces can all start as the foundation for a chic look.

Scarves: Scarves of all colors and sizes are welcome! Right now, in the city, the chunky scarf has taken over. Wrapped, knotted, or styled as a balaclava, the scarf keeps you extremely warm and is a great way to elevate any outfit. Our lovely local Urban Outfitters and Anthropology can assist you in finding the perfect size scarf for all of the occasions. As we progress through the winter, the once-statement scarf can now be worn subtly; the skinny scarf has emerged in all colors and patterns. So, stay warm with a scarf this winter; the accessory that was once only worn as outerwear can now be worn anywhere.

Faux Fur Coats: We are also for faux fur. For the moment, these jackets, cropped or trench style, and in all the colors and patterns you can imagine, are being pulled out of our mother’s and grandmother’s closets, sold out online, and yanked off thrift racks (another honorable mention to our sustainable girls). And maybe even fought over, in the many businesses in Fashion District like; H&M, Burlington, Forever 21, and Primark. This is another way we elevate our looks as we run errands, go out in the evening, commute to work, or explore the city. Furs are versatile; you can dress them up with tights and heels or casually with jeans and some Uggs. So, add those new statement pieces to your closet, and find yourself a fur.

While there are many trends to cover this season, we featured items that can help revive your wardrobe with little effort. The best part of dressing up is to have fun styling and experimenting with new things while feeling your absolute best in the clothes as you wear them.

We also like to recommend and encourage shopping local. Try to take some time for yourself soon and do some retail therapy. Remember, the key to winter styling is comfort and, above all else, feeling confident and having fun.
