Social media can be impactful for PR due to real-time messaging. This quick and immediate messaging allows for a more influential impact in regards to promoting. Social media has loosened the restraints of traditional PR and has made room for information to reach a wider ranged audience. While in the past PR has been used in a mostly corporate space, it is now applied to many more areas and fields, such as lifestyle, entertainment, fashion, and more. 

Ways social media has positively impacted PR:
  • While PR was greatly dependent on getting a “hit” or being picked up by well-known media sources, it can have a similar effect by being promoted by a big name blogger or influencer 
  • Success is no longer linear, it allows for more space in what equates to successfully reaching your audience 
  • Social media is great for finding more contacts and journalist to add to press list and media spreadsheets 
  • Finding influencers to attend events for clients, and therefore getting more publicity and recognition 

Overall, social media is not a question when it comes to PR, it is a necessity if the goal is to market and promote your clients and brands as effectively as you can.
