The Ultimate Philly Sushi Guide

The Ultimate Philly Sushi Guide

Whether you’re looking for date night, girls night out, or a family-friendly dinner, we’ve got you covered with our new Philly sushi guide. This comprehensive list includes our favorite sushi spots throughout the Greater Philadelphia area. With an abundance of sushi restaurants to choose from, we’ve categorized a number of sushi hot spots for your convenience.

Best BYOB

  • Kisso – For over two decades, Kisso has been taking their sushi seriously. Serving more than 20 different types of nigiri, this BYOB also has a number of must-try off-menu creations to ask the chef about.
  • Bleu Sushi – We love the fact that their signature rolls are all Philly-inspired names! An added bonus is that you can easily order party trays to serve Bleu Sushi at events.
  • Umai Umai – Chef Alex McCoy puts a twist on traditional sushi with his “designer rolls.” If you’re feeling adventurous, come to Umai Umai and experience sushi like never before!

Best Fancy Rolls

  • Fat Salmon – Named after their mascot and the customer-favorite fish, this place presents beautiful featured sushi in a lounge-like space. Be sure to try their four new rolls: eggplant and cream cheese, chicken and cabbage, salmon and mussel, and kimchi and yam tempura.
  • Crazy Sushi – Using only high-quality fresh ingredients in each plate, this spot takes pride in their “Insta-worthy” pics. And the rolls taste as good as they look. Try the Spicy Crunchy Dancing Kani Roll on a date or the 3 for $12 sushi roll lunch special.
  • Doma – Taking superior ingredients to new creative levels, Doma’s signature rolls stand out in this town by incorporating fruits, glazes, and non-raw options. For instance, the Lobster Tempura roll is more than the name suggests with lobster tail tempura, mixed greens, Korean pear, spicy sprouts, and tobiko wrapped in soy bean paper. Or try the deconstructed Naked Roll, where the fish is served atop a deep fried sushi rice cracker.

Best Sushi Class

  • Tuna Bar Interested in mastering the art of sushi-making? Well, lucky for you, Tuna Bar hosts a sushi class with their head chefs! During this 2-hour class, you will learn how to and make traditional sushi rolls. Plus, you’ll go home with a tasting kit, a bottle of sake and rolling tools!

Best Omakase Tasting Menu

  • Morimoto – This Starr Restaurant, led by Iron Chef Morimoto, offers a chef’s choice multi-course dinner. The menu, which starts at $100, is designed to give guests a comprehensive experience of the cuisine. Available Thursday to Sunday, this omakase can also be supplemented with a beverage pairing.
  • Double Knot – While this restaurant also doubles as an all-day coffee bar upstairs, the basement’s ambiance is a hot spot for dinner. The chef’s tasting menu features ten small plates plus dessert at $55.
  • Royal Izakaya – Newer to the scene, this restaurant has already ridden to popularity due to Chef Jesse Ito’s proven skills at the former Fuji in Haddonfield, NJ. The omakase is an even newer addition with a chef’s menu that varies from day to day, depending on the fresh fish. (Some are flown straight from Japan!) Select an 18-piece nigirizushi omakase ($110 a person) or a 10-piece nigirizushi mini omakase ($55).

Best Sushi & Night Out

    • Yakitori Boy – With the option to sit downstairs for a restaurant ambiance or enjoy karaoke upstairs, this izakaya has something for everyone. The sushi, prepared under Head Sushi Chef Tasaka Yasuhiko with over 40+ years of experience, is always fresh. Plus, there are generous deals on food and drinks every day. (Sushi specials start at $2.50!)
    • Tango – Perfect spot to have a fun night out with friends or family as you enjoy plates from this Pan-Asian restaurant. End the night by heading upstairs to sing your heart out with karaoke. Also check out their daily specials on great food and drink deals, which vary throughout the week.
    • Double Knot – Have you ever heard of a sushi speakeasy? The first floor offers coffee and cocktails but head downstairs and you’ll find a sushi bar and robatayki!

Best Sushi Happy Hours

  • 1225 Raw – Wash down delicious sushi bites with amazing drink deals during happy hour from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. on weekdays. On the weekend, enjoy the late night specials from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. Specials include $4 beers, $5 wines, and $6 cocktails.
  • Qu Japan Bistro & Bar – Everyday, Qu Japan has a $5 happy hour. You can choose from appetizers, sushi rolls, sake and more.
  • Sampan – From 4 to 7 p.m. each day, Sampan offers a variety of dishes for only $5 or $6. We recommend the tofu taco and kim chee fried rice! They also have a large selection of happy hour cocktails!

Best Sushi That Delivers

  • Vic’s Sushi Bar – As one of the smaller hole-in-the-wall type of sushi places in the city, don’t let the size of Vic’s fool you. They’ve been creating quality, affordable sushi in Rittenhouse for a decade. Score free delivery in the city with a $15 minimum.
  • Yellowtail – For free delivery on a $10 minimum, check out Yellowtail. Choose from tons of classics for an easy lunch or more than 30 different specialty rolls!
  • La Sushi – La Sushi is one of the most popular Sushi spots on GrubHub. They offer plenty of coupons, like $5 for first-time customers and a free side of miso soup!

Best AYCE (All You Can Eat) Sushi

  • Aki Sushi Bar – This popular Center City restaurant serves their all-you-can-eat special all day everyday. The $27.95 option includes any variety of sushi, maki/hand rolls, an array of appetizers, and dessert. Plus, enjoy any of their sixteen specialty rolls for a couple more bucks.
  • Hibachi – Enjoy a waterfront dining experience at the Penn’s Landing location. Made-to-order selections start at $26.95 for sushi and choice appetizers, plus an additional $3 to add sashimi.
  • Mr. Sushi – Don’t miss this brand new spot located in a Jersey strip mall in Cherry Hill. For $22.95, you can get your fill of all-you-can-eat sushi. If you’re not ready to indulge, their expansive menu has everything from Japanese classics to trendy sushi burritos.

Best Sushi in the Suburbs

  • Sagami – Just over the bridge in Collingswood, NJ, this hole-in-the-wall sushi place is a neighborhood favorite. The family-owned operation has been serving some of NJ’s finest sushi since 1974. Bonus: it’s BYOB!
  • Bluefin & B2 Sushi – Since the original Bluefin in East Norriton became such a hit, Owner and Chef Yong Kim recently brought a new sister restaurant, B2 Sushi, to Bala Cynwyd. Both restaurants shine the spotlight on the fresh selection of seafood, from the appetizers to the sushi and special dishes.
  • Chikara Sushi & Asian Fusion – Chikara is located on Phoenixville’s main street, only an hour away from Philly. They have a large menu which includes not only sushi, but hibachi too!
