Happy Monday, Philadelphia!

This upcoming week is an exciting one in the City of Brotherly Love. We don’t want to give too much away, but keep reading to learn about the goats, midnight tango parties and everything else happening #ThisWeekInPhilly.

July 12

  • Calling all plant lovers! Pennypack Environmental Center is hosting Plants in the Meadow. As you head along the center’s trail, you’ll learn all about a plethora of plants (like sugar maple and mountain mint, just to name a few)!
  • Take in the Delaware River during golden hour at Sunset Jazz! This week, Christian McBride will be performing at Wiggins Waterfront Park in Camden. The free concert begins at 7 p.m.

July 13

  • The Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Fabric Workshop & Museum are teaming up for today’s livestream event: Fabric & Friendship! Artist Faith Ringgold will be showing a BTS look at her screen-printing process and leading some DIY demos! Register ASAP and make sure you have the suggested materials!
  • Interested in being on television? Well, PhillyCAM’s Intro to Community Media Workshop is the perfect launch point! This workshop prepares you for how to submit programming to PhillyCAM’s local cable and radio platforms.

July 14

  • Celebrate Bastille Day, a.k.a. France’s independence day, with l’Alliance Française de Philadelphie! Their online event consists of live performances, speeches, and trivia! Oh, and did we mention that there will be prizes?! 
  • Take a well-deserved mid-week break at Summer Social by Happy Hour Philly! From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., you can enjoy drinks ranging from $4 to $6 at Misconduct Tavern. Plus, if you get hungry, there’s plenty of bar food classics available on the menu!

July 15

  • Tap into your creative side at the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Field of Flowers studio! You can admire some of Faith Ringgold’s art and then work on your own masterpiece with screening and stamping techniques. This event is open to artists of all ages but is ideal for children! 
  • Head up 12 stories to see PhillyBloco at Cira Green! The 12-person group will be performing a mixture of Brazillian music, reggae, funk and soul. Expect a fun night filled with dancing! Tickets are $21 and doors open at 6 p.m.

July 16

  • Here’s a twist on the classic dinner and a movie: the Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation is hosting a food tour of the neighborhood, which will be followed by a sunset film screening! Meet at the Friendship Gate at 6 p.m. for the food tour and end the night at the Rail Park. Tickets are only $5! 
  • Travel back to the 80s at the Bristol Township Amphitheater! The Totally Awesome 80s festival will feature a lineup of local artists covering Madonna, Billy Joel and all your other favorites from the decade. Make sure you snag a ticket before they sell out!
  • Looking to get back to a LIVE CONCERT?! Thats right! See Lil Durk LIVE in concert presented by Dope Shows* at 7pm at the Mann ! Get your tickets now!

July 17

  • Celebrate Tastytreat’s 20th anniversary with its founding DJs, Questlove and Mike Nyce! In addition to stellar music, you can expect jawn t’s, drinks, and (of course) Tastykakes. This 21+ event is being hosted outside at the Setupstage from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m.
  • Hang out with the Philly Goats at Goldstar Park in East Passyunk! From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., you can walk along the trails and play with your new goat friends. Registration isn’t required but social distancing and masks are a must!

July 18

  • Spend the entire day dancing at the Philadelphia Piazzolla Festival! From 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., the Philadelphia Argentine Tango School is holding tango workshops. Then, from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m., there will be a concert and milonga (which, in case you don’t know, is a type of tango event).
  • Get your daily news briefing at Extree! Extree! At this event, comedians will be shown recent news articles and then perform improv scenes based on the headlines. The show begins at 7 p.m. at Crossroads Comedy Theatre.

As the temperature increases, be sure to apply sunscreen and drink plenty of water!
