Philly Unknown Project Hosts 3rd Annual Community Chilli Cook-Off


On Saturday, February 9, 2019, the Philadelphia community is coming together for a great cause. Filled with spice, prizes and special guests, Philly Unknown Project hosts its 3rd annual Community Chili Cook-Off. The local nonprofit provides essentials to those who are homeless, near homeless, or in need of day-to-day resources. Every day, its members aim to empower those in need through outreach, education, support, and advocacy.

Event Details

Join Gina Gannon, of QVC and 6abc, as she hosts the cook-off. Starting at 1:30 p.m. at Warehouse on Watts, attendees can sample each participating chili and choose their favorite. Medals and cash prizes are up for grabs for Best Chili! Plus, everyone has a chance to participate in the silent auction and 50/50 raffle for a chance to score awesome gifts.

Chili competitors of all levels are welcome to bring their best chili dish! Creativity is encouraged, including vegetarian or vegan entries. Natalie Egenolf, on-air personality for 97.5 The Fanatic’s Mike Missanelli Show, shares, “I’m thrilled to show off my cooking skills! All of my food is made with lots of love. I’m hoping people feel it, and we can raise money with The Philly Unknown Project. They’re doing incredible work in the Philadelphia community.”

Competitors should prepare approximately 5 lbs. of chili in a crock pot or similar cooker. There is no on-site chili cooking at the event. This BYO cook-off is $15 to attend, with 100% of event proceeds going towards Philly Unknown Project. Hurry and purchase tickets today, before February 8, 2019, to receive one free raffle ticket. Additionally, there will be tickets available at the door.

Britt says, “Our annual Chili Cook-Off is open to everyone! We want to bring together Philadelphia community members who are interested in connecting with each other. It’s a great feeling to be a part of something positive that makes a difference for others.”

In Philadelphia, there’s an estimated 16,000 homeless individuals. Britt commits himself to being on the front lines. He works by hitting the streets with volunteers, ministries, and other nonprofit organizations. Together, they’re helping individuals survive on the streets and raise awareness of the issues of addiction and homelessness.
