Monday, August 26th
- Last Dance: Dirty Looks at the End of Days – Dirty Looks is a monthly experimental film and video platform from NYC, making its debut in Philadelphia at the International House. This series of short films re-imagines the screening situations of the experimental and underground film boom of the 60’s and 70’s.
- Changing Scenes: Points of View in Contemporary Media Art – $3 admission to the Fabric Workshop and Museum gives you access to a dozen artists’ look at the history of independent film, video, and installations from the 70s through today.
Tuesday, August 27th
- Lawson, Dinner and a Suit at World Cafe – Lawson, a four-piece band based out of London who got their start on Youtube, and Dinner and a Suit, an anthem-fueled rock band, perform upstairs at the World Cafe Live for $15 cover.
- Movie Night at Dock Street Brewery – Catch “Avatar” for Dock Street’s last blockbuster movie night of the summer. $1 off small select pizzas and drafts, and $2 off large pizzas.
Wednesday, August 28th
- Close-up of Romeo Castellucci – FringeArts’ President Nick Stuccio shows excerpts from Castellucci’s productions Tragedia Endogonidia and La Divina Commedia – Inferno, Purgatorio e Paradiso, and discusses why Castellucci’s work is important for Philadelphia and this year’s Festival. From 7 to 8 p.m. at the International House, RSVP here.
- Concerts in the Park – Free concerts at Rittenhouse Square open with Mic Stewart from 7 to 7:30, with main acts Cee Knowledge and The Cosmic Funk Orchestra playing until 8:30. A surprise guest is slated from 8 to 9!
Thursday, August 29th
- Interactive Memory Workshop with GroundSwell – After collecting memories of summer for the Spaces Between Your Fingers project, founder Matthew Smith will host a free interactive memory workshop at the Free Library of Philadelphia from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. SBYF will help you to “unlock” memories that have been lost in your head over many years. An optional happy hour at Kite and Key will take place afterwards.
- The Clydesdales are coming! – Come to the Urban Saloon on Fairmount Ave for the best view of the Budweiser Clydesdale horses getting hitched from 6 to 7 pm. The horses will be bar hopping around Fairmount to promote the Made in America concert.
Friday, August 30th
- Finally Friday Free Beer Tasting – First come, first serve brews from Yards Brewery at the Trolley Car Diner from 5:30 to 7:30.
- SugarHouse Casino Happy Hour – Friday happy hour specials include $2 beers, $3 wines and $4 cocktails so you can save your cash for the tables.
- Friday night backyard BBQ into a Souled out party at the Trestle Inn!
Saturday, August 31st
- Made in America Festival – Beyonce meets Nine Inch Nails in Jay Z’s super-hyped two-day festival featuring Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Deadmau5, Imagine Dragons, Calvin Harris, Kendrick Lamar, and more.
- Lululemon Urban Yoga – The last free yoga session of the season! Takes place at the Piazza at Schmidt’s from 9 to 10 a.m.
- Baconfest and Guys’ Night at Campbell’s Field – All-you-can-eat bacon spread from 5 to 7 pm in the Diamond Cafe. The Riversharks play the Houston Sugar Land Skeeters at 5:35.
- Wing King 5 – BigBite Philly’s 5th annual competition brings the BBQ to Fleisher Art Memorial for just $10 a ticket.
- 40th Street Summer Series – This month’s family-friendly outdoor concert showcases Spaceship Aloha, backed by with entertainment such as jugglers, fire artists, face painting, balloon art, and more!
Sunday, September 1st
- John Brown’s Legacy in Philadelphia – This free cell phone walking tour presented by the Civil War History Consortium shares the history of John Brown’s deep connections to the city’s anti-slavery community. Print out the map and find out where to call here.
- 48th Annual Polish-American Family Festival and Country Fair – The National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa brings live entertainment, arts and crafts, re-enactments, ethnic foods, midway rides and more to Doylestown, PA for two weekends spent celebrating traditional Polish culture. Admission is $10 at the gate.
