Harry Potter Fans take over Chestnut Hill

So let me start by saying I’m not a Happy Potter person, I’m more a Twilight fan.  (yeah I said it!) BUTTTTT after talking to my two Philly PR Girl contributors I realized people still LOVE  that Wizard!  So in the spirit of Halloween I sent my contributors to see what this huge Harry Potter 3 day event was all about.

This past weekend Kristen braved the storm to watch the pages from the famous Harry Potter series come to life in Chestnut Hill.  It wasn’t quite 9 ¾ she said, but platform 3 at 30th Street Station was the beginning of her trip to Hogwarts.   She was immediately picked up from the train station by the Hogwarts Express Shuttle and made her way out to Chestnut Hill College for the 3rd Annual Philadelphia Brotherly Love Cup.   Here’s what she had to say about the weekend:

“It was my first time watching a Quidditch match, and it was an experience to remember.  Each team has three chasers, two beaters, one keeper and one seeker.  All the players had to ride on a broom, which added to its authenticity.  The seeker runs through the campus chasing the snitch, which is actually played by a neutral player dressed in yellow.  I no longer felt as if I  was in the muggle world when an announcement went out for a loose snitch.  The game lived up to its hype as a rough semi-contact match.

While the tournament was going on you could venture up the hill and enjoy some famous Butterbeer.  The beverage was sold at The Three Broomsticks and the Hog’s Head in the books.  I also took a short quiz and was sorted into one of the four houses at Hogwarts.  The sorting hat put me into Hufflepuff, which was the same house as Cedric Diggrory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.  It was nice to know where I would fit in at Hogwarts!

Many of the shops in town had been transformed into spots from the series, such as the Leaky Caldron and Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes.  Before we got on the train back to the city, I picked up a chocolate frog with a Dumbledore card inside.  These were famous treats enjoyed by students on the Hogwarts Express as they made their journey to Hogwarts.  It was the perfect end to my Harry Potter day.  From Quidditch to Butterbeer, the day was truly magical.”
