Bing Bing Dim Sum Is Open For Business

Last week, Philly PR Girl received an invitation to check out East Passyunk’s newest restaurant, Bing Bing Dim Sum, for a special friends and family night. Our answer was YES YES YES! Ben Puchowitz and Shawn Darragh (the geniuses that brought us Cheu Noodle Bar) have been working on this 50-seat restaurant for over a year. The first thing you notice when you walk in is the bright bar and bold interior with a cool, mural-like design – what they are calling the Dumpling Wall – designed by Jon Billett of Beer Paste. We are also huge fans of the hand-painted light fixtures above the bar.

We were lucky to sample four dishes plus an amazing dessert. Oh, and let’s not forget the drinks! We tried the ever-popular No Sleep ’til Shanghai pitcher, with 5 spice vodka, grapefruit, communism tea, cocchi rosa, pomegranate, moscato and thai basil. For eats, we started off with the Jumbo Soup Dumpling with shrimp and coconut broth. Yes, it’s every bit as good as it sounds. Then we had to try the Potato Dumplings with horseradish and dill. We were pretty sure nothing was going to top that dish until we tried the Chow Fun – Chinese sausage and hot bean paste (and it’s HOT) with dill. BingBingDimSum2These might be the BEST noodles you will EVER HAVE. All the kitchen specialties looked fantastic (yes, we stared at our neighbors’ dishes), but we had to try Joyce’s Steamed Fish, served whole with scallion ginger sauce. For dessert, we tried the Chocolate Beo which consists of banana and bourbon!

We are definitely going back to try the Lamb Ribs, Steamed Rice Balls, and all the “doughy things” (assorted dumplings and pan fried bao) from the menu. We are calling it now: Bing Bing will win Philly Mag’s Best New Restaurant and/or Best Dim Sum – it’s that good! The kitchen is open from 5 p.m. to midnight daily. Expect daytime weekend hours to be added in the coming weeks.
