This month we’re featuring Ciara Strickland for our #FirstFriday blog series! Ciara is known for her amazing sense of style and for motivating others to tap into their confidence. From serving in the Navy to moving to Philly, she’s doing big things!
PPRG: How does the unique vibe of Philly inspire your fashion sense?
CIARA: Philadelphia’s blend of historic gravitas with vibrant street culture gives my style its edge. From the textured, aged bricks of colonial buildings to the bold, unapologetic murals splashed across the city, I draw inspiration from those to name a few.
PPRG: Are you more inclined towards dressing up or embracing comfort in your style?

CIARA: It definitely depends on the occasion, but nowadays, I aim for comfort. Comfort is paramount in my style philosophy, but I believe comfort doesn’t have to forsake style. I aim for a sophisticated yet relaxed look, using high-quality fabrics that feel good on the skin and fit well, but that also convey a sharp, put-together image. PPRG: What ignited your passion for the world of fashion?
CIARA: Honestly, my mom. Growing up, she always dressed to the 10s. I can remember watching her pick out her outfits the night before and this is where I learned about patterns, color coordination, and her precision for putting together outfits. My mom always said “Dress like you’re going to meet the most inspirational person to you, so be camera-ready”.
PPRG: What staple piece is an absolute necessity in your wardrobe?
CIARA: White sneakers, whether canvas or leather. They are incredibly versatile and elevate any outfit, whether paired with trousers for a business causal outfit or worn with a casual tee and jeans for a day out. It’s the perfect blend of comfort and style, which is my signature.
PPRG: In what ways has your time in the Navy shaped your professional outlook today?
CIARA: My time in the Navy instilled in me a deep respect for discipline, structure, and the power of a team working toward a common goal. These principles have profoundly shaped my professional outlook, driving me to approach my fashion career with rigor and precision while fostering a collaborative environment where creative ideas can thrive.
PPRG: Where’s your favorite place to shop in Philly?
CIARA: Easily South Street. There’s so many stores to access no matter what you are looking for. One of my go-tos is Status.

PPRG: What’s your favorite pair of sneakers out of your collection?
CIARA: Oooh, this is a hard one. If I had to pick, it would be the Air Max 1 silhouette. This is one that I probably have in about 6 different colors and styles.
PPRG: How did you come up with the Instagram name @thenewmixx?
CIARA: The New Mixx™ came about as it relates to all things that involve my style: It’s old, mixed with new, bold yet neutral and masculine and feminine. So it’s a “mix” of all of those.
PPRG: Looking ahead, what are your aspirations for The New Mixx’s growth over the next decade?
CIARA: As I look toward the future of The New Mixx™, longevity is a key focus. I’m committed to continuing the production of long-form content and developing ebooks because they offer profound ways to connect with and educate my audience. These formats allow for a deeper dive into subjects that matter to my community, from the intricacies of genderless fashion to practical advice on wardrobe essentials and personal style. These initiatives will help sustain and grow the community around The New Mixx™, making it a lasting and influential voice in the fashion industry.
PPRG: What’s one piece of fashion advice you’d like to give the public?
CIARA: Embrace your unique style; let your clothing be an extension of your personality rather than a mask to fit in. Fashion should be fun, expressive, and fearless. Don’t be afraid to mix patterns, play with colors, or blend styles. I like to say “when you look good, you feel good”. Your confidence is your best accessory.
