Places to Shop During Black History Month In Philly

Philadelphia is home to so many unique, welcoming, and successful black-owned businesses. These shops are owned and run by driven black entrepreneurs and families. These businesses deserve a spotlight this month, for all that they add to their community. 


Amazulu

Amazulu is a black-owned jewelry business. This shop is located in the Reading Terminal Market and has been for the past 30 years. At first, the shop sold all handmade sterling silver jewelry. Charita Powell is the lovely owner and silversmith of the business. She has now transformed the shop over the years to showcase local creators, as well as metal workers from all over the country. This means that all kinds of art are sold, still jewelry but also sculptures, dolls, and more.

The Naked Peach

The Naked Peach is a black-owned full-service waxing company in Philadelphia. This business is owned by Sarah Giovinetti-Mobley. The waxing shop is devoted to providing painless and easy waxing services, as well as giving back to their community. The owners regularly donate their funds to scholarships that go back to Philadelphians who need some extra support.

Uncle Bobbie’s Coffee and Books is owned by Marc Lamont Hills. He is a Philadelphia local, who shows his pride for his city through his shop. The book section of the business gives off an overwhelming theme of pride for the community. In addition, the cafe section adds to the fun and welcoming atmosphere. Overall, a great place to be in the city, and an even better way to support black-owned businesses.

No problem Hook Intimates got you covered, they go up to an N Cup and a 50 band!  Hook Intimates is a Black-Owned Bra Shop located right outside the Philadelphia area and is owned by two black women Tamika and Giselle who have educated themselves about bras, sizes, and cups by offering complimentary bra fitting. They have beautiful styles and colors no matter your size or shape. Shopping with them will make you walk out with the new bra on and the old bra in your purse.
