Our very-own Philly PR Girl, Kate Marlys, attended the PA Conference for Women’s 20th Anniversary at the Pennsylvania Convention Center on Thursday, October 19. She has been attending this conference for over 10 years. Kate was a Speaker before, and has worked on the PR side of things for a couple of years. Guests got the opportunity to hear from a strong lineup of over 30 speakers, such as Tina Fey, Gail Devers, Laysha Ward, and more! Kate gave us five of her favorite quotes from the conference that stuck when hearing all the actionable advice from the speakers.
- During session one, Lt. Susan Slawson, Executive Director of the Philadelphia Police Foundation, said when asked how she juggles everything and being on multiple boards, “I’m Gonna give you a real answer. You make it work. You say no to things. And you get someone to clean your house!”
- Board President of the Pennsylvania Conference for Women, Leslie Stiles, shared, “Behind every great woman is another great woman, so go ahead and pull another woman up with you.”
- Former, Prime Minister of New Zealand (2017-2023), Ardern, shared that people often say to her, “I don’t know how you do it all.” She said that she often responds with, “I don’t, I don’t do it all, I have help.” Dame said we should normalize the idea of superhero’s having side kicks when talking about her partner and how he helps her in all aspects of her life.
- When José Andrés, Chef and Humanitarian, spoke about adaptation leadership, he said, “We need more women in power because they can adapt! Adaption will win the day!”
- Keynote Speaker and SNL Alum, Tina Fey shared, “The biggest thing you can do is being a proponent to diversifying the room you’re in.”
