How To Beat the Summer Heat

Don’t let the back-to-back 90-degree days here in Philadelphia get you down! Once the weather starts to really heat up, having an enjoyable time while also staying cool isn’t always an easy feat. However, look no further than these activities to chill out and beat the heat!

Indoor Activities

Grab Some Ice Cream In The Gayborhood!

Ice cream is a no-brainer activity for the summer and a perfect way to combat the hot weather. Two must-see spots, Scoop DeVille and Van Leeuwen Ice Cream both happen to reside in the Gayborhood area of Center City, a 10 minute walk from City Hall! Between their fun flavors and inexpensive prices, we all just may have to stop in during our lunch break before the summer ends!

Axe Throwing

Throwing the hatchet at an axe throwing range is a fun and unique way to keep cool inside, away from the summer heat. A group reservation with friends, drinks, and food is the perfect activity for a weekend avoiding the sun. Check out this indoor axe throwing range in Philadelphia and see what all the hype is about!

Reading Terminal Market Sweet Treats

Reading Terminal Market is one of the nation’s oldest and largest public markets filled with different cuisines– and the sweet and cool ice cream definitely does not fall short! Not only is this a place to cool off with some delicious Philly ice cream, but it’s a great place to stroll through and get away from the beading city sun! Not only is there food and fresh produce to check out, but the market also includes everything from handmade imported crafts and American quilts, to freshly cut flowers, cookbooks, and more!

Outdoor Activities

Hit Up Dilworth Park

What’s better than some cool drinks and surrounding water features in the epicenter of Center City Philadelphia? Dilworth Park is fully back in business this summer, and better than ever.  Located at City Hall, Dilworth Park is a hip, fun, and welcoming outdoor space. Not only is Dilworth the hub of Center City Sips and has great cooling drinks and food, but they also host movies! Pictures in the Park brings a lineup of flicks to a giant screen at Dilworth Park every Friday night through the end of August and is a great summer night activity once the sun goes down.

Relax At Spruce Street Harbor Park

The Harbor park is filled with colorful hammocks, floating gardens, beautiful trees adorned in technicolored lights, local craft beers, and delicious food trucks. Not to mention some icy drinks and river breeze to keep you cool! Whether you want to relax with friends under the lights or enjoy your time out on the floating barges in the water to keep you cool, Spruce Street Harbor Park is a can’t-miss summer spot!

Paddle Boating at Penn’s Landing

Take a paddle right at Penn’s landing! Hop in either a paddle or row boat and enjoy the river breeze! With the sights around, this is one activity that is sure to cool and relax you!

We’re in the dog days of summer so it’s most important to stay hydrated and cool for the remainder of the season, especially during heat waves and advisories. Stay cool Philly!
