This Week In Philly

We’re getting close to summertime! That means there are SO MANY fun things to do in the city this week—like not one, but two free outdoor concerts, a drive-in movie and more!

May 31: Memorial Day

  • Memorial Day is the “unofficial” start of summertime… which means lots of outdoor concerts in the city! Kick off the season at the Divine Loraine’s Annex Courtyard! On Monday, electronic duo dywb? w. del & francisco collazo will be performing from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are only $5, buy one before they sell out!
  • Where’s a better place to spend Memorial Day than at the Museum of the American Revolution? The museum’s Memorial Day itinerary is filled with educational activities to entertain everyone. Guests can pay tribute to the people who lost their lives during the Revolutionary War, send postcards to blue and gold star families, make patriotic crafts and take a gallery tour.

June 1

  • The Chinatown Scavenger Hunt: Summer Edition is a great way to explore the neighborhood! Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation and Franklin Square have teamed up to present this annual challenge.  You, and up to three of your friends, have until July 3rd to complete the scavenger hunt.  Register for free at the Franklin Square ticket window to receive your first clue! Winners will receive tickets to the Franklin Square carousel, Betsy Ross House and Philly Mini Golf
  • Did you know that June 1st is National Olive Day? Come celebrate at Bistro Perrier’s olive tasting! From 11 a.m. to noon, Walnut Hill College’s French bistro is serving a special olive sampler.

June 3

  • Spend your lunch break at Center City District’s Live @ Lunch! Each Wednesday, a different local artist will be performing at Dilworth Park from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. This week, the Rufus Harley Jr. Foundation (a.k.a. RHJr 2.0) will be performing some of their namesake’s most famous jazz tracks!
  • If you’re a fan of singer songwriters, then Live at Sister Cities Park is right up your alley! Live at Sister Cities Park is another free concert presented by Center City District. This event is the perfect entertainment for a picnic—it’s BYOB and Sister Cities Café will be selling food if you get hungry. This week, local musician Hadar is performing from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.!

June 4

  • Fringe Arts’ Hand to Hand Circus is not your average circus! There are acrobats and clowns, aerials and juggling, and more! In addition to performances, you can take workshops too! Fringe Arts’ annual festival lasts until June 13th. Grab tickets for you, your friends and your family today!

  • Spend your Saturday at the Makers Market! This special market is filled with local arts and crafts vendors.  Makers Market is located at Spruce Street Harbor Park, a.k.a. Penn’s Landing, so once you’re done shopping, you can grab something to eat or relax by the waterfront!

June 6

  • The Philadelphia Flower Show has more than just flowers—there’s butterflies too! If you have a Flower Show ticket, for an additional $5 you can walk through Butterflies Live! In this new exhibit, you can walk through a room filled with butterflies and pollinator plants. The exhibit is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Catch a glimpse of the skyline as you’ve never seen it before! The Independence Seaport Museum is hosting Kayak Excursions: Sunset Paddle all summer long! First, attendees will learn paddling and safety basics, then kayak along the Delaware River.
