This Week in Philly: May 10th – May 16th

This Week In Philly

Happy Monday, Philadelphia! #ThisWeekInPhilly, the weather is getting warmer and there are so many outdoor activities for you to choose from! Keep reading to learn about Dilworth Park’s new summer event, a Greek food festival in the ‘burbs and a murder mystery dinner!

Here’s what’s happening #ThisWeekInPhilly:

May 10

  • The Rothman Rink has traded its ice skates for roller skates! Head over to Dilworth Park and get your skate on at the brand new Rothman Roller Rink. Its neon decorations and black-and-white checkerboard floor will attract anyone from children to adults who are nostalgic for the 80s.  The rink is open on weekdays from 11 a.m. to 8:45 p.m.
  • On an average day, Longwood Gardens is a magical place. But the Festival of Fountains, which runs from May to September, can only be described as otherworldly.  Explore Longwood Gardens’ tulip, wisteria and foxglove-lined paths and don’t forget to stop by their Main Fountain Garden and watch the fountains (yes, the fountains!) dance throughout the day. Buy your timed tickets now!

May 11

  • This summer, relax and rewind with KG Strong’s rooftop yoga at BOK Bar in South Philly! From now until October, KG Strong will be hosting a yoga class from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. every other Tuesday. Each month, the proceeds go toward a different nonprofit!  In May, 30% of the proceeds are donated to Southeast Asisan Mutual Assistance Association Collection (SEAMAAC).
  • Puzzling Adventures has turned Philly into one big game board with their self-guided scavenger hunt. You can choose your own adventure—there are two different scavenger hunts: one located along the Ben Franklin Parkway and another around Old City. Grab some friends or go solo and start exploring the city, you never know what you might find!

May 12

  • Spend your morning at the Rittenhouse Farmers’ Market. The market has plenty of staples, like local produce and fresh baked goods, but even more specialty vendors: exotic mushrooms, moonshine, and gourmet soup, just to name a few!
  • Everyone deserves a classy night out. If you’re craving a refined evening, the Morris House Hotel is presenting Candlelight Open Air: Beethoven’s Best Moments. Guests will be seated in the hotel’s garden and serenaded by a string quartet. Hurry and buy your ticket before it sells out!

May 13

  • One of our favorite Philly summer traditions is back!  You can now stroll down Manayunk’s Main Street every Thursday evening. The street is lined with every type of pop-up you could think of: art vendors, food and drink, and plenty of shops! Oh, and to make it even better, there’s always live music too!
  • Ever wonder what Eastern State Penitentiary is like after dark? Now you can find out! The penitentiary is offering night tours on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays all summer long. After walking through the cells, you can head over to Eastern State’s beer garden and grab Triple Bottom Brewing Co.’s new brew: Purpose Pale Ale!

May 14

  • The Bourse is hosting an outdoor movie series every Friday! For the month of May, each movie is animal-themed and there will be an opportunity for attendees to donate to PAWS. Plus, a PAWS volunteer will be there with dogs that are up for adoption! Tonight, the Bourse is showing The Secret Life of Pets!
  • Need a break from the city? Go to the Greek Food Festival in Media! There will be homemade Greek dishes, pastries and other delicious goods. You can choose between curbside pickup, take out and socially-distanced seating. The festival is being held from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the St. George Greek Orthodox Church.

May 15

  • Come enjoy springtime bliss at The Wine Garden in West Philly! From 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., The Wine Garden will be serving brunch alongside specialty cocktails, frosé and an unlimited mimosa bar. Dress in your best attire because there will be a backdrop and plenty of other photo ops! Grab your ticket now!
  • Think you’d make a great detective? Test out your sleuthing skills at Moshulu’s Murder Mystery Dinner! Climb aboard the historic ship-turned-restaurant and be transported to the Roaring 20s. Tickets include an indulgent three-course meal and one delicious drink, plus tax and gratuity.

May 16

  • Take in one of Philly’s most iconic and scenic views—the Art Museum and Boathouse Row—while enjoying some fresh food and draft beer. Parks on Tap’s Fairmount Waterworks location offers a menu full of local homemade meals, desserts and lots of drinks (alcohol and nonalcoholic)! On weekends, the beer garden is open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., so you can start happy hour early or grab after-dinner drinks.
  • Did you miss out on traveling this past year? Well, good news: you can get a glimpse of Japan without ever leaving the city! Nestled in West Fairmount Park, the Shofuso Japanese Garden includes a waterfall, koi fish pond, traditional tea house and (of course) a garden. The site is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and admission ranges anywhere from free to $12!
