The Perfect Day Trip: Wineries in Philly

With the COVID-induced lockdown having no end in sight, it’s important to prioritize getting out of the house with friends in a safe, socially-distanced manner. Any excuse to see friends and dress up these days is a good enough excuse. Check out these five wineries in the Philly area that are worth planning a day trip for!

Penns Woods Winery

Located just 40 minutes from Center City, Philadelphia is Penns Woods Winery. This place is known for their beautiful vineyards and ultra-premium wines which are served throughout the city. Reservations for the tasting room are limited to groups of 6 and set up in time blocks to adhere to social distancing rules, so call ASAP to reserve your spot!

Cardinal Hollow Winery

This winery is next on the list for their fun, creative twists on wine making. While they’ve mastered the classics in wine making, they turned to making wine from things like jalapeños and pumpkins. Sounds crazy, right? Don’t knock it until you try it! The tasting room is located about 50 minutes north of Center City, Philadelphia. No reservations are required for small groups, and you can taste only wines you’re interested in for $1 each, or taste every wine for $30!

Crossing Vineyards & Winery

Another 50 minutes outside of Center City will land you at Crossing Vineyards & Winery, where they offer different wine tasting packages for your reservation. At $20 a person for 1-6 people, you are able to try 10 of their award-winning wines, paired with a sandwich. They also offer a lunch package Monday through Friday, where your lunch is paired with different wines, as well as a themed Celebration Wine Tasting for special events or birthdays. Their wine tastings are indoors but they are adhering to all COVID-19 regulations, and you must call to make a reservation.

Amalthea Cellars

Right across the bridge in New Jersey lies the beautiful Amalthea Cellars. Just 40 minutes from Center City, Philly, this winery makes you feel like you’ve been transported to Italy. For groups larger than 5 a reservation is required at least one week in advance, but if you’re keeping things on the smaller side, Amalthea offers wine flights for only $6. You can choose red or white, or you can get a mix!

Pinot Boutique

Can’t get out of the city, or just want to stay local? There’s no shortage of great wineries in Philadelphia. While Pinot Boutique in Old City doesn’t make their own wine, they are proud to sell a selection of local Pennsylvania wines. Reservations are required, and only outdoor seating is available to adhere to current social distancing guidelines. They offer wine flights, wine by the glass, ciders, and even beer!

The list doesn’t stop here! There are tons of wineries and craft breweries in the Philly area, and in times like these it’s important to support our local businesses and get out of the house in a safe, socially distanced manner. Let us know which spots you’re planning to go to this weekend, and don’t forget to tag us when you’re at our favorites wineries!

  1. Well, you got two right in this blog. Penns Woods and Amalthea are two of the best wineries anywhere within 100 miles of Philadelphia. The other ones are ok but none of them make my too 75 wineries in PA.
