Hey you, yes you! It’s ok, you can smile. We’re here to let you know that you are just in time for happy hour, on a budget! With only $20, we have 7 options to choose from. Ranging between high end Italian cuisine, to rowdy sports bars, all the way until we’re having margaritas with a side of tacos. We’ve got some interesting picks on how to survive happy hour on a budget. Let’s dig in shall we! 

1. Osteria

Located at 40 N. Broad Street, let’s take a look at Osteria. With authentic taste, Osteria opened in 2007 becoming one of the country’s critically acclaimed Italian restaurants. With true authenticity, scenic views, and a warm welcome you’ll feel like you’re in the heart of Italy. To get you even more excited, happy hour takes place from Wednesday – Sunday from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. Their menu features a collection of homemade pastas, anti pastas, and an exquisite salumi and cheese board. A great suggestion would be to get a White Vino wine ($6) paired with a margherita pizza ($6) and a salumi and cheese board ($6). Without breaking the bank you have $2 left, a trip to Italy doesn’t sound too bad now does it?

2. Giuseppe & Sons

Next up is Giuseppe & Sons located at 1523 Sansom St. With a nontraditional twist husband and wife Michael Schulson and Nina Tinari wanted to bring a very modern french twist to Italian American dining. Speaking of being nontraditional, let’s get into the menu. Happy hour is the best time of everyone’s day especially Giuseppe & Sons. Taking place from Wednesday – Sunday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., it’s time to dine on a budget. This very unique happy hour menu features four options for $20 and another option for $25. Prepared for your taste buds to take a journey while saving those coins. Though we won’t tell you what to get, a quality *suggestion* would be to get Option 1. Happy eating! And don’t forget the wine!

3. Sampan

Have you ever been to Sampan? If not it’s about time you change that. Located at 124 S. 13th Street, Sampan has a modern outlook on Asian cuisine in the heart of Center City. What better way to your heart than a happy hour that takes place every day from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. These confined plates are packed with flavor and will take your tastebuds to new heights. Art and affordability go hand and hand when coming to Sampan. The menu is the definition of simplistic quality while hitting every mark on the first bite. A great meal combination to get would be the Vietnamese Chicken ($4), veggie spring rolls ($5) , and Kobe Slider ($5). Don’t forget to wash it down with a featured beer ($5). We promise you won’t be disappointed. Look at that you even have a dollar left!

4. NuNu

I know your mouth is watering, but we’re halfway through the list. Let’s shift gears and head over to NuNu located on 1414 Frankford Ave. NuNu’s is a Japanese inspired restaurant with food and drinks that are divine! Happy hour is everyday, as it should be, from 4 p.m.- 6 p.m. With two menus, there are various options and combinations to choose from. An ideal food combo to try would be a Junmai Sake ($6), chicken breast skewers (2 per order) ($3), and crispy pork gyoza ($6) totaling out to $15. If you like that, just wait until you taste the rest of the menu. 

5. Bar-ly

Mouth watering recipes never stopped being affordable. Bar-ly is Chinatown’s ONLY sports bar that can be found at 101 N. 11th Street in Philly’s own Chinatown. The happiest time of the day takes place everyday from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. You know what would make you happier? Knowing that the most expensive thing on the menu costs $6.75. With a variety of options to choose from we’ve narrowed it down to a science. Make sure you get an Angry Orchard ($4.50) or Electric Lemonadetini ($4.75), (2) chicken skewers ($3), fries ($3.50), and mini Lo Mein ($6.75). With that being said, we know you have change to spare. 6. Aether

Aether is located 1832 Frankford Ave, in Philadelphia’s most talked about town, Fishtown. With a delicate, indepth, and raw menu, Aether has it all. Something that makes this restaurant unique is the raw bar and seasonal menu that features fresh fish and a variety of seafood options to choose from. On Wednesday and Sunday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. you can shuck for a buck of fresh oysters while enjoying $2 off from the bar menu. You can also sip your way into the drink specials that take place from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Monday as well. Happy hour menu takes place on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. We *suggest* getting a select beer ($6) and Philly Jawn Beignets ($10) which is a pork roll, broccoli rabe, sharp provolone, and paprika aioli. Can’t you taste it?

7. Taqueria Feliz

Feliz means happy and taqueria means taco stand. Put them together and you get a happy taco stand! Trust us, you’ll be happy once you see the menu. Taqueria Feliz Manayunk is a mixture of vibrant and authentic hospitality of the Mexican experience. The best part of this experience is the happy hour menu. Monday – Friday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. happy hour is almost everyday at Taqueria Feliz. Small, but mighty is only the surface of what describes this menu. I mean who doesn’t love tacos. No trip would be complete without a margarita or sangria, which you can get $2 off during happy hour! Top it off with small nachos ($6), and (2) chicken skin tacos for $2 off as well! You may even wanna try their Chapulines tacos that feature crispy grasshoppers if you’re feeling spontaneous.
