Philadelphia’s highly anticipated annual summer pop-up park at Eakins Oval is back and better than ever before! With this year’s theme of “More PARK, More PLAY,” The Oval+ is covering eight acres of public space. That space is filled with new family-friendly events and programming that’s all FREE to the public. With a beautiful 20,000-square-foot mural spanning the center of the pop-up, The Oval+ already stands out on Benjamin Franklin Parkway and within the Fairmount neighborhood!
Opening festivities for opening day kick off at 5 p.m. with food trucks, tunes from BEN FM, and Bright Radio game show with comedians Sidney Grant and Alex Grubard. Enjoy a summer night of fun with a chance to win free drinks, summer show tickets, cash prizes, and giveaways!
Throughout the season, attendees can anticipate in the following weekly activities:
Wellness Wednesdays
Get active with free fitness classes from 5-8 p.m. All classes are brought to you by local studios and classes. Try yoga, kickboxing, dance classes, boot camps, and more this summer.
Arts & Culture Thursdays
Dance the night away with live music from 7-11 p.m. in the beer garden.
Friday Food & Flicks
Movies begin at 9 p.m. The current lineup includes The Greatest Showman (7/20), Battle of the Sexes (7/27), Karate Kid (8/3), Wayne’s World (8/10), and Creed (8/17).
Game Day Saturdays
Test your knowledge at quizzo from 4-6 p.m. in the beer garden (21+ to enter) with some big prizes up for grabs!
Sunday Family Fundays
Taking place from 2-7 p.m., kids can have their own “Sunday Funday” with a live DJ, face painting, games, and activities.
Additionally, the pop-up park will include interactive art installations, a misting and ribbon pavilion, chalkboards, a maze, mini-golf, a sandbox, and games including chess and checkers, legos, connect four, ping-pong and bean bag toss.
In its second consecutive year, The Oval+ is made possible by Fairmount Park Conservancy and Philadelphia Parks & Recreation. They have partnered with the City of Philadelphia, Mural Arts Philadelphia, and urban design firm PORT to develop this public space. The Oval+ is open until August 19, on Wednesdays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
