A new month brings tons of new events and activities. The weather is (finally) getting warmer which means it’s time to get outside and check out everything that’s happening all over the city! Tag your events out and about in Philadelphia with #ThisWeekinPhilly.

Monday, April 30
  • If you enjoy writing and are looking to get creative, this workshop is for you! Held at CultureWorks Greater Philadelphia, Write Here! Write Now! is a six-week, creative writing workshop designed to empower and teach individuals new ways to express themselves through their creativity.
  • As part of Philly Tech Week, celebrate the 4th Annual Rad Awards. Come and honor badass local women who are leaders in the fields of technology, media, culture, science, and business.
  • Experience a very special evening at Fork Restaurant with Lisa Calvo, owner of Sweet Amalia Oyster Farm. Discuss of oyster farming and sustainable acquaculture, then have a tasting of the farm’s oysters prepared three ways.
Tuesday, May 1
  • The spectacular Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival in Franklin Square is back! It’s a cultural celebration that features artisans from China creating magnificent works of art. Visitors can enjoy amazing performances, as well as taste global cuisine, raise a toast at the Dragon Beer Garden open nightly, and so much more!
  • Pop star Camila Cabello is coming The Fillmore Philadelphia at 8 p.m. Sing and dance along in a more intimate venue, ahead of her major stadium tour with Taylor Swift later this summer.
Wednesday, May 2
  • Presented by the H$TL House for Philly Tech Week, Study Hall Summit is a one-day event that will leave attendees inspired and motivated. Chime in on panel sessions, strategy lightning talks, and a gig exchange. Stay afterwards for the happy hour party called “Recess” to finish off the day.
  • Take over the streets of Media, PA at the town’s Dining Under the Stars. Enjoy al fresco dining on State Street, which is completely closed to vehicular traffic, by local restaurants.
Thursday, May 3
  • Philadelphia magazine’s 2018 Wine Festival is back and more luxurious than ever at the Tork Club at Lincoln Financial Field. Taste exclusive wines from around the world and enjoy pairings from some of the best restaurants in Philly. With over 500 samplings, you won’t know where to look first!
  • Calling all Star Wars fans! Make the most of the summer-like temperatures with a free outdoor screening of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. BYO chairs to the piazza at The Schmidts Commons.
  • Drink, dance and laugh at Sunflower Super Power Hour, a silly burlesque show guaranteed to make you laugh out loud. The lineup includes performances from Greta Grenade, Brettzo, Bugalu Boogie, and the birthday girl herself, Fleur de Soleil.
Friday, May 4
  • Celebrate the technology community of Philadelphia with the big finale of Philly Tech Week, their Signature Event! Head over to Reading Terminal Market to close the eighth annual PTW. Enjoy a cocktail reception and some of the city’s favorite food vendors.
  • See the changing of exhibitions and installations at Eastern State Penitentiary’s 2018 Season Reception. This free event offers light refreshments with a chance to preview work by three new artists.
  • In celebration of Asian Arts Initiative’s 25th Anniversary, Then and Now opening reception includes commissioned works by Asian-American artists. Get a chance to have live interactions with the work of artists focused on the community in Philadelphia.
Saturday, May 5 – Happy Cinco de Mayo!
  • Head to Old City for the biggest Cinco de Mayo Bar Crawl in Philly! Start at The Gaslight on Market Street and make your way through 30 participating bars throughout the city. Drink Specials include $3 select beers, $4 well mixed drinks, and $5 margaritas.
  • The fourth annual Cinco de Mayo block party at El Rey begins at 12 p.m. Honor Mexican culture with family-friendly activities, margarita specials, mariachi performances, and street food.

  • South Street Spring Festival 2018 is a free, all-ages event that spans more than twelve city blocks! It features vendors that include 30 area restaurants and more than 125 boutiques and businesses to shop around. It also includes the German beer and dancing festival, Maifest by Brauhaus Schmitz.
  • Rain or shine, the Philadelphia Renaissance Faire 2018 is coming through town this weekend and next. Be transported to a European medieval village, full of vendors, performers, games, and food. All ages are welcome to this adventure!
Sunday, May 6
  • One the city’s favorite runs is back! On your marks, get set, get ready for the 2018 Broad Street Run. Whether you’re a runner or a cheerleader, thousands of Philadelphians will line Broad Street from North Philadelphia to the Navy Yard.
  • Take advantage of PECO’s Free First Sunday Family Day at The Barnes Foundation with the newest exhibit, Renoir: Father and Son/Painting and Cinema. It explores the father-son relationship between impressionist artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir and filmmaker Jean Renoir. See the juxtaposition of the father’s paintings and drawings with the son’s films, costumes, photos and ceramics.
  • Join Lynn Landes, founder of Wild Foodies, for Jane’s Walk On The Wild & Historic Side. On this tour through Washington Square Park and surrounding streets, you’ll learn how to forage for food in an urban setting. Plus, take note of historic sites and the efforts that go into preserving them.
