What to Expect At Philly Tech Week 2018

Eight years and counting, Philly Tech Week is back from April 27 to May 5. What is PTW? It’s when the City of Philadelphia dedicates an entire week dedicated to technology and promoting innovation in our communities. Here’s what you can expect in 2018.

Friday, April 27

Come to the official PTW Kick Off Festival at the Schmidt’s Commons! This is an outdoor event with local tech projects from outdoor apps, award winning video games, VR tech, and more. Grab a drink (and some cool PTW merch) and enjoy!

Monday, April 30

Tech in the Commons 2018: Bring AR and VR to our neighborhoods. This non-profit event offers four boot camps to engage mission organizations in the community. The first boot camp will take place during PTW, while the rest of the series continues late through the season. New to this year, there will be two project nights (also later in the season) to work on what you’ve learned.

Wednesday, May 2

We’ve all had a great idea for an application for a phone or gadget, right? The DEV Workshops are where you can apply hands-on learnings to create applications throughout different courses. Come with a fully charged laptop to gain serious knowledge on PHP development, front end HTML, or prototyping user interfaces to bring to life. These classes are an intermediate level (a little advanced for beginners). You should have a basic understanding of fundamentals specific to the workshop, but it doesn’t hurt to check it out if you are really interested in learning.

Immediately after the workshops is DEV Talks. That consists of four focus rooms with speakers talking about AI and machine learning. Along with the popular trend of Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies. If you ever thought about investing in these new potential currencies this might be a great learning course for you and a friend!

Friday, May 4

Philly Tech Week wouldn’t be complete without the Signature Event at the end of it all. Celebrate all your newfound wisdom at a cocktail party hosted at the iconic Reading Terminal Market. With this amazing venue, you know there will be ample food selection. Bites from some of the city’s best vendors include DiNic’s, Molly Malloy’s, Flying Monkey Bakery, Bassett’s Ice Cream, and more!

These are just the highlights! This year, there are more than 99 events going on throughout Philly Tech Week. To check out all the events for something more geared towards your interests, check out the entire calendar here.
