Celebrate Earth Day 2018 at These Philly Events

Although the Earth deserves to be treated well all year-long, April 22 is a call to action for making our ecosystem a better place. Celebrate Earth Day by learning about the many ways to contribute to a greener future and devolving your carbon footprint. The City of Brother Love extends its affection for Planet Earth with many celebratory events. Check out these family friendly activities that are both informational and enjoyable!

Citywide Star Party

Star gazers across the city are set for an optimal good time for Philadelphia Science Festival Citywide Star Party. Astronomers are setting up 20-plus state-of-the-art telescopes for all of the outer space lovers to get a closer look to appreciate the universe. Laurel Hill Cemetery, the Free Library of Philadelphia, and Awbury Arboretum are amongst the 22 star party locations across the city!

 

Science In The Garden

Dive into your inner scientist with a day of exploration for all ages. The event consists of guided garden activities, including planting seeds with your family. Learn about the wonders of water, the may habits of pollinators, and the strength of seeds when done right. On this Earth, heighten your awareness by learning how to take care of the planet at Science In The Garden!

 

Earth Day at The National Constitution Center

Learn all about the green pioneers like President Teddy Roosevelt and First Lady Claudia “Lady Bird” Johnson. Get some fresh air while participating in outdoor activities on the Center’s front lawn including gardening and 18th Century games. Be sure to walk around to the many tables that are created for fun and helpful tips on going green!

 

Fishtown Science Crawl

Allow your Sunday Funday to a have a twist of science, this Earth Day! The Fishtown Science Crawl offers drink specials, science demonstrations, and inspiring activities at popular venues. Being quite proud of the nerdiest bar crawl, join in on cheering to science and going green! Check out the list of participating locations here.

 

Art Is Life Festival

Roxborough is celebrating the neighborhood’s artistic roots. The event highlights three main stages with a plethora of musicians, vendors, and dozens of pop up shops. The festival is full of creativity, craftsmanship, and locally-sourced cuisine. In addition, come see the new The Roxborough Pocket Park that will open with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Be sure to check out the dedication of Watershed, a mural by internationally recognized artist and Roxborough native Paul Santoleri, produced in partnership with Mural Arts Philadelphia.
