Philadelphia had a “Wonderful” surprise today when Stevie Wonder announced he would be performing a pop-up concert at City Hall this afternoon at 3 p.m. Thousands gathered when the tweet went out this morning that the legend himself would be making an impromptu appearance in Dilworth Park. And the best part? While many would pay hundreds to see him, this concert was all for free!
Stevie came out on stage to screaming fans and started with a long and calm acoustic song before getting to the hits that everyone wanted to hear. He played many famous tracks, including “You Can Feel It All Over,” and took a break between each song for a Q&A session with reporters and fans. Perhaps the person to enjoy the concert the most was Philadelphia’s own Mayor Nutter, who was caught on video jamming out to Wonder.
Stevie started his pop-up tour earlier this morning in Washington D.C. before making his way to Philadelphia. He will end his day with an appearance in New York City.
The legend announced today extended and final run dates for his Songs in the Key of Life Performance tour. He will be coming to Philadelphia with this tour on October 7th at the Wells Fargo Center. For more information and for tickets, visit Live Nation.
