10 Things to Put on Your Summer Bucket List

At Philly PR Girl, we are no strangers to lists – whether it’s personal to-do lists, work checklists or event guest lists. With all of the spectacular events and pop-ups, Philly has inspired us to share with you a list of what’s hot this summer. Here’s our “bucket list” of what to do in Philadelphia this season. Get outdoors, enjoy the sunshine, and have fun!

1.     Spruce Street Harbor Park
The Delaware River Waterfront has certainly spiced things up this summer with the pop-up park, open 7 days a week through September 27th! Back in its second year, this family and animal-friendly outdoor oasis comes complete with a beer garden, boardwalk, swinging hammocks, floating barges, and much more! 2.     PHS Pop-Up Beer Gardens
The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s seasonal pop-up is back by popular demand, now hosted in not one but three locations: East Passyunk (9th and Wharton), Logan Square (18th and Cherry), and South Street (15th and South). These beloved outdoor watering holes offer unique programming including performances by local musicians, special events, and, of course, promises drinks flowing all night long. 3.     Philadelphia Eagles Practices Open to the Public
Not only do the Philadelphia Eagles welcome the public to cheer on at team practices, but in addition, they also invite fans to a variety of fan-focused activities. Later in the season, there will be opportunities to meet Eagles alumni, get autographs and much more! 4.     Flying Trapeze with Fly School Circus Arts
Professional flying trapeze trainer and Owner/Director of Fly School Circus Arts, Mary Kelly Rayel and her team have a blast teaching flying trapeze classes at Camp Kirby. Soar through the air at 13-feet above the city while learning cool trapeze tricks. All classes are $60 and last for two hours. For the full class schedule times and more information, click here.

5.     Big Red Pedal Tours of Philadelphia
With the options of “Philly by Day” or “Philly by Night,” participants have the opportunity to tour the city on a big, red, 15-passenger pedicycle! Turn up the tunes and get to peddling. Visit the Liberty Bell and Franklin Square during the daytime, or start off the evening bar-hopping on a pub crawl. The Philly PR Girl team did it, and we’re obsessed! 6.     Pairings on the Parkway
Taking place now until September 10th, Sister Cities Park (where 18th Street meets the Ben Franklin Parkway) is declaring BYO Thursdays, with live music entertainment from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Pairings is a free event sponsored by Center City District Parks, with new performers slated for each week. 7.     40th Street Summer Series
To capture the soul of the University City, internationally-acclaimed artists and ensembles are invited to perform in this family and student-friendly outdoor concert series co-produced by University City District, Penn, and The Rotunda. Taking place at 40th Street on select dates, check out the full list of dance, theater, and music performances here. Afterwards, grab a bite to eat at restaurants that line 40th Street, including Iron Chef Garces’ upscale mexican Distrito, vegan-friendly HipCityVeg, or authentic ethnic cuisine at Greek Lady.

8.     Hike through Wissahickon Valley Park
Now a national natural landmark, the Wissahickon Valley Park offers an abundance of recreational activities, including hiking. 9. Summer Fun Runs

The Down & Dirty Obstacle Race – Warminster Park
With the option of running three or six miles, this run will not only test your endurance, but your strength for completing the 20+ obstacles that crop up throughout the track. Are you up for the challenge? This one takes place on Sunday, July 26th, so register here now!

Color Me Rad – Bethlehem, PA
With color bombs, color cannons, color mortars ,and more, white will be the last color you’ll be wearing by the end of this 5K. Taking place on August 8th at the ArtsQuest Center, be RAD and sign up as an individual or a team here!

City Fit Girls’ Run Club – Center City
For the ladies who love working fitness into their regular routine, City Fit Girls is a community you need to get involved with. This group hosts a free Run Club that meets every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Dilworth Park. Runners of all levels are welcome to join – no one gets left behind!

10.  Share a huge sundae at Franklin Fountain
Located at 116 Market Street, the Franklin Fountain offers an old-school parlor ambiance with an unbelievably delicious abundance of ice cream flavors, sundae selections, and other delicious treats.
