On June 10, 2015, hundreds of Philadelphia’s most spirited and passionate sports fans will gather at the historic Trocadero Theatre for a once in a lifetime event – the Philadelphia red carpet premiere of Sons of Ben: The Movie.
Sons of Ben: The Movie is an inspirational documentary directed by Jeff C. Bell, an award-winning director/producer who has overseen musical performances by Adele, Jeff Bridges, Lady Gaga, Lenny Kravitz, and Weezer, among dozens of other artists. The documentary pays homage to the journey of the Sons of Ben, who followed their dreams of bringing a Major League Soccer team to the city of Philadelphia, influencing the creation of the Philadelphia Union. The film will cause laughter, tears, and cheers, and is sure to make viewers so unbelievably proud to live in Philadelphia. Sons of Ben: The Movie is more than just a sports story – it’s a Philadelphia story.
The Sons of Ben were founded in 2007 by three individuals who were tired of not having an MLS team of their own to cheer for. They took it upon themselves to gather supporters, and what started out as three potential fans turned into over 1,000 members within a single year. The Sons of Ben began going to MLS games in other cities and cheering for Philadelphia, making he MLS commissioner aware of the fact that Philadelphia wanted a team, and would stop at nothing to get it.
While the film has been featured in numerous festivals around the world, this will be its first premiere in Philadelphia. The night will start at 6 p.m. with a happy hour sponsored by Yards Brewing Company and a red carpet for special guests. There will be plenty of snacks for guests to munch on before and during the screening. At 7:30 p.m., the film will begin after a few words from the director himself. Immediately following, there will be an unforgettable after party at the Trocadero, with food, drinks, a DJ, photobooth, and special guests to be announced! Sponsors include Photobot 3000, Yards Brewery, Kind Snacks, and Pretzel Crisps – and a few select restaurants will be named soon!
