Prepare yourselves because this year’s Fourth of July Jam on the Parkway is going to be huge!
Yesterday, Mayor Nutter announced the complete lineup for the Wawa Welcome America Festival. The celebration is held June 28th to July 4th. It kicks off with a block party at the Shops at Liberty Place on Saturday. Then on Sunday enjoy free admission to the Academy of Natural Sciences.
Wednesday, July 2nd brings us the sandwich to end all sandwiches. Dubbed Wawa Hoagie Day, an epic five-ton hoagie will feed more than 17,000 people! While you scarf down on famous Mid Atlantic hoagies, Wawa will honor 50 military heroes. Afterwards, educate yourself with free access to the National Constitution Center featuring the Slavery at Jefferson’s Monticello exhibition.
Independence Day begins with a parade featuring Mummers, floats and more than 5,000 participants. Though the star of the festival is the annual July 4th Jam on the Parkway concert. This year, The Roots will be joined by a superstar lineup that includes Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson, and Nicki Minaj.
The show is already the largest free concert in the country, but Mayor Nutter has plans to bring national awareness to this festival. He has mentioned asking Jimmy Fallon to host The Tonight Show in Philadelphia during the week since the show’s resident band is festival headliner The Roots. We’re crossing our fingers for that!
