Monday, September 16th
- * Cyber-Security and Cyber-Insecurity Conference – The World Affairs Council of Philadelphia hosts a speaker event featuring Congressman Pat Meehan (Subcommittee of Cybersecurity), Barton Gellman (The Washington Post) and Lawrence Husick (Center for the Study of Terrorism) at DoubleTree Philadelphia in Center City from 5 to 7:30. $35 for public, $10 for students.
- Jamaican Soul Night – DJs Bloodfaceman and Browner Jeff spin roots, reggae and Jamaican soul at Morgan’s Pier starting at 9 pm. No cover charge.
Tuesday, September 17th
- Constitution Day – Free admission to the National Constitution Center from 8:30 am to 5 pm, with special appearances by Congressman John Lewis, Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient Gerda Weissmann Klein, and civic activist Mary Beth Tinker.
- Museums Without Walls – Take an improved walking audio tour of public sculptures and artworks with the Association for Public Art’s award-winning program through West Fairmount Park and Center City. Explore the grounds, meet some of the voices, and enjoy live music and dancers at a free event at The Horticulture Center from 5 to 7 pm.
- Why We Fail: Learning from Experience Design Failures – Author of the book “Why We Fail”, Victor Lombardi, discusses successes and failures in web design and electronics and how to propel well-designed products with equally successful experiences. Presented from 6 to 9 pm by PhillyCHI at Christ Church in Old City.
Wednesday, September 18th
- The Philadelphia Collection Kick-Off – From the 18th – 25th, this fashion series will promote Philly’s fashion economy with independent events including fashion shows, trunk shows, lectures, movies, panel discussions, and more. See all of the events here.
- Pay Up – Part of the FringeArts Festival, Pig Iron Theatre Company re-worked their 2005 show to align with the post-financial crisis. The show is a choose-your-own-adventure to do with buying and selling; part laboratory experiment, shopping experience, and circus taking place at Asian Arts Initiative in Old City.
Thursday, September 19th
- Hope Chest Undressed – Come by Hope Chest Philadelphia from 4 to 7 pm for a trunk show by SPANX showcasing the newest in women’s shapewear and lingerie. Enjoy cocktails, bites, entertainment and a free gift with any purchase.
- Perspectives on Peace Photography Exhibition – Drexel University Office of International Programs, in collaboration with Peace Day Philly, present the works of Laurence Salzmann, Noah Addis, Eric Mencher, Sarah Bones, and Anthony Wood at the James E. Marks Intercultural Center. On display through October 31st, Thursday’s opening night goes from 5 to 8 pm.

Friday, September 20th
- Park(ing) Day – This worldwide event is in its 6th year in Philadelphia! Over 170 square feet of public parking lots will be turned into pop-up parks for the day, with the help of architects, artists, and activists alike. Check out this map to find a re-imagined park near you.
- OysterFest at Reading Terminal Market – Sample dozens of varieties of oyster paired with craft beers for $50 a ticket. Merchants for the 2-hour event include Pearl’s Oyster Bar, Molly Malloy’s Bar & Grill, and Fair Food Farmstand. Net proceeds will benefit Fair Food Philly.
- Rittenhouse Square Fine Art Show – Rittenhouse’s 9th Annual Fall Show takes place on the 20th – 22nd. Starting at 11 am, come to the Square to window shop the art work of dozens of local artists, vendors and artisans.
Saturday, September 21st
- Recovery Walks – PRO-ACT hosts its 12th annual Recovery Walk, beginning at 7:00 am at the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing. The purpose of Recovery Walks! 2013 is to provide hope for recovering addicts, help reduce the stigma of the disease of addiction, celebrate SAMHSA’s Recovery Month and to recognize organizations that provide services for the recovering community. Afterwards there will be free music and food.
- PHS Fall Garden Festival – Free and open to the public, this year’s festival at The Navy Yard celebrates the achievements of home gardeners with a full day of plants, shopping, food, workshops, gardening tips, Quizzo, children’s activities.
- Oktoberfest Street Festival – South Street will be bustling from 12 to 8 pm with tons of German beer from Brauhaus Schmitz, live oompah music, and a pig roast!
- Barstool Blackout Foam Party – One of the biggest raves of the year just got a bit crazier, adding foam into the mix of glow sticks and gloves. Starting at 6 pm at the Festival Pier on Penn’s Landing.
Sunday, September 22nd
- Sunday Brunch Cruise – The Philadelphia Gay Tourism Caucus takes brunch aboard the Spirit of Philadelphia. $80 tickets include a full buffet, drink ticket, entertainment, and a narrated tour of the waterfront.
- * P3 Soccer Tournament – Six teams will compete at Penn Park from 12 to 8 pm in a free tournament hosted by the UNA-GP for peacebuilding and diplomacy.
- Icona Pop at the TLA – BedHead presents Icona Pop, of the summer single “I Don’t Care”, at the TLA alongside K Flay and Sirah. Tickets are $20, the show starts at 8 pm.
- Yards 5th Annual Smoke ‘Em If Yous Got ‘Em – Enjoy smoked beers from around the world with local BBQ and smoked foods. 25-30 beers will be poured while guests are entertained by live music throughout the event, from 12 to 4 pm at Yards Brewing Company.
