Show Us Your Shoes Parade

On a gorgeous Saturday afternoon I took a short trip down the Parkway to check out the Miss America Parade: Show Us Your Shoes.  Miss America has returned to “her” hometown and birthplace Atlantic City after being in Las Vegas for the last several years.  Miss America’s been around since the 20’s and the parade was started in the early 1970’s.  For many, like myself, it was the first time seeing this amazing parade and we quickly learned the fun in yelling “show us your shoes!”   Not only were all 53 Miss America contestants in the parade there were also 49 dancing groups, 14 floats, 14 marching bands (including my own!), and 16 choirs.  Think Broadway meets Boardwalk!

All the Miss America contestants participated in the parade and made their own shoes!  Here are some of my favorites:

  •  Miss Pennsylvania – Think America Flag Fashion with Red, White, and Blue High Heels
  •  Miss Hawaii – Flowered shoes with a Wood based heel
  •  Miss Illinois – She wore Ice Skates and repped her favorite team, the Chicago Blackhawks
  •  Miss New York – Can you say bright lights, big city…Heels with LED flashing lights!
  •  Miss Kansas – Theresa Vail has been getting a lot of press about her tattoos, but now it’s going to be all about her parade outfit!  She wore full Army gear including combat boots!
  •  Miss Florida – There was no missing her Gator shoes with close to 3,000 rhinestones!
  • Miss New Jersey – Cara McCollum dressed as a mermaid and wore starfish, oyster, & pearl  heels – so cute!
  • Miss Arizona – There was no wondering which state she was from…her cactus shoes gave it away!
