Whether you’ve jumped on the Paleo Diet wagon, you have been diagnosed with Celiac disease, or you’re simply just not a gluten eater, there’s no need to worry about dining at some of Philadelphia’s finest eateries. Believe it or not, gluten-free menus are on the rise in Philadelphia, and you can find some of the best GF foods in the country. Almost all restaurants in the area offer gluten-free options or even separate gluten free menus. From breakfast to baked goods, the Philly PR Girl team has compiled a list of our favorite gluten free spots around Philadelphia that you have to try.
Breakfast
One Shot Café, Northern Liberties: A heaping bowl of the red quinoa muesli with steamed milk, topped with fresh fruit and coconut is the perfect way to start your morning. $$
Brunch
Fare, Fairmount District: Known for their fresh concepts and decadent flatbreads, Fare now serves all menu items on their house-made gluten free flatbread. We suggest the Lobster Flatbread with fennel, lobster cream and brown butter. $$$
Lunch
Jules Thin Crust Pizza, Ardmore, PA: Although located in the suburban outskirts of the city, we’ve been obsessed ever since we tried it. With over 35 varieties, locally grown and organic toppings, and naturally gluten-free thin crusts, you cannot go wrong with any slice. Bonus: Gluten free desserts are available at the register daily. $
Paesano’s, Fishtown: Great News! You can still indulge in this Philadelphia staple sandwich shop with gluten-free bread now being offered for all of their hot or cold sandwiches. Grab a seat at the counter and order the lamb sausage. $
Maoz, South Street, Center City: We cannot tell you how happy we are that there is finally an answer to all of our falafel questions. Philly favorite, Maoz Vegetarian, is now offering gluten-free falafels on their menu everyday. Get ‘em while they’re hot! $
Dinner
Sampan, Midtown Village: If you want a swanky menu, trendy atmosphere, and delicious cocktails, Sampan is the spot for you. They offer an entirely separate gluten free menu with favorites such as the Crispy Rock Shrimp and the Salt and Pepper Shrimp and Scallop. Order a fantastic freshly squeezed cocktail and get ready for dessert. $$$
Vietnam Café, Cedar Park: The staff’s food knowledge of their menu at the West Philly location is remarkable. They are more than willing to accommodate a gluten-free lifestyle with a smile and are famous for their spring rolls. Bring your appetite because the portions are huge. $$
Giorgio On Pine, Center City: This BYOB is by far the best option for gluten-free Italian food. With a separate menu for lunch and dinner, Giorgio has a laundry list of incredible pastas and pizzas with traditional ingredients and flavors. Order the Pesto Pie and Mussels in White. Delizioso! $$
Bar
East Girard Gastropub (EGG), Fishtown: Located in the heart of Fishtown, this gastropub offers a multitude of gluten-free dishes with reasonable prices. We suggest going on a Tuesday for the $1 oysters special, the hot & honey wings, and don’t forget, the carnitas tacos. $
Cheu Noodle Bar, Washington Square West: The owners, Ben and Shawn, certainly know the secret to creative dishes with a personal spin. New to the block since April, this intimate noodle bar offers gluten-free rice noodles, soy sauce, and broth. Bonus: Anyone in the industry receives 15% off their check! $
Bakery
Taffetts Bakery and Store, Italian Market: Located in the heart of the Italian market, this bakery is a hidden gem that is home to the best baked goods you will ever eat. Taffetts offers it all: fresh loaves, baguettes, challah bread, muffins, cookies, and biscotti. This place is definitely a little slice of heaven. $$
