Philly PR Girl hearts Philly Beer Week

bw2013

We are just under a week away from one of the most anticipated annual summer events and a Philly PR Girl favorite, Philly Beer Week!  From May 31 to June 9, find out why Esquire Magazine has named Philly the Best Beer-Drinking City in America. Events vary from dinners, pub crawls, tastings, happy hours, to much more throughout Philadelphia.

There are hundreds of events this year starting with the Opening Tap on May 31 at Independence Mall where Mayor Nutter will be tapping the first keg at 6:30pm. It will be free to the public while supplies last. Tickets for the grand tasting are available online and are $45 general admission, $90 for VIP, and $15 dollars to any designated driver.  A little known secret is that the actual first event of Philly Beer week is an event called “Welcome to Philly!  Now drink up.”  It’s a ritual of Philly Beer Week to kick off at the Irish Pol Midnight the night before.  This Olde City bar, which was recently named the #1 Happy Hour in Philadelphia, offers $3 beers & has 40 taps.  What a great way to kick off the festivities!

After that, here are some top events events during the week that you won’t want to miss:

The 4TH Annual Broads, Brews and Queens (BBQ) at Smokin’ Betty’s this Saturday, June 1 starts at 9pm to celebrate the women of the beer industry. As you meet the broads behind the beers, enjoy a tower takeover of lady-inspired drafts.  Drag performances from The Goddess Isis’ “The Sisters in Sin” with special appearances by supporting “beer queens.”  Admission is a suggested $5 cover to benefit the William Way LGBT Community Center.

The Piazza at Schmidt’s will be hosting the Catalina Beer Mixer on Saturday, June 1st from 6-9pm. Tickets are $20 for a limited time early bird special and $35 after that, so get them quickly! Spend your night outside in our favorite Northern Liberties spot, where you can sample over 50 craft beers. Also enjoy live music and an awesome dunk tank.

Old Eagle Tavern in Manayunk will be hosting a Yards Brewing Bike Race Party to celebrate the annual sporting event on Sunday, June 2nd from 11am to 3pm. Enjoy $1 off beers all day, meet the brewers, and sample numerous new suds including a light saison.

It’s a guaranteed good time during Dunkel Dare at Frankford Hall. Wednesday and Thursday June 5-6, special guest Marc Summers will host a Double Dare-style showdown starting at 7PM. The competition takes place between four local breweries with a live studio audience; this year’s competitors are Stoudt’s, Yards, Victory, and Great Lakes Brewing. Numerous TVs will be streaming the event throughout the outdoor beer garden and next door at Fette Sau (if you’re feeling a whiskey vibe).

Let us know what you’re looking forward to during Philly Beer Week!
