October is all about beer, so cue the fun events! From burlesque shows to foodie festivals, there are plenty of chances to imbibe. For those looking for a little culture alongside their brews, there are local artists (literally) everywhere this week. Tag your events out and about in the Philadelphia area with #ThisWeekinPhilly.

Monday, October 9

  • Ambrosia Food Group’s Becoming a Vegetarian culinary class makes Meatless Monday a cinch. They cater to those that may hesitant to leave meat behind so it’s all about taking baby steps. All carnivores to try it out and enjoy some veggies with light refreshments.
  • The Callback Bar at Punch Line Philly hosts Game of Thrones trivia night. With five challenging rounds of questions on the first six seasons, who will prevail on information of the seven kingdoms?

Tuesday, October 10

  • Evil Genius Beer Company presents Secret Lair Burlesque for an evening of glamorous and dazzling seduction. Admission is free, and doors open at 6 p.m.
  • See creator of the famous Funky Winkerbrean comic, Tom Batiuk, at Penn Book Center. The 2008 Pulitzer Prize nominee will give a talk, followed by a signing of his latest book, the Lisa’s Legacy Trilogy.

Wednesday, October 11

  • Power W, a newly-established locally-based forum to empower women. This month’s topic is: Communicate to Lead. This workshop focuses on three aspects of leadership communication: listening, participating in and facilitating meetings, and speaking. Discounted parking available.
  • PHS welcomes Philly citizens to join Heritage Storytelling: Cocktails, Culture, and Conversations at their pop-up beer garden. There will be pay-as-you-go food and drink available at this free event, along with a fun Instagram photobooth with iconic Philly landscapes.
  • It’s The Citizen’s Civic Impact’s second birthday party! For the last two years, they have aimed to provide local reporting to engage every Philadelphian to participate in bettering their community.

Thursday, October 12

  • Welcome CultureWorks’ new Chief Commons Director, Liz Sytsma, at their Open House Breakfast. Pop in to congratulate Liz, mingle with new people, and enjoy some light fare and good company. While free, please RSVP. All are welcome!
  • The Philadelphia Eagles head down south this week to play the Carolina Panthers. Head to Xfinity Live to cheer them on. The first 500 guests get a Miller Lite on the house! After that, enjoy $3 Miller Lite bottles and a $5 game-day menu.
  • The Night Market Ye Shi returns to Chinatown. Sample on restaurant bites, food trucks, street snacks, and drinks. Participate in arts and crafts or check out the live entertainment… and so much more!

Friday, October 13

  • Femme & Fortune’s third annual Fearless Conference is the place for empowered women to be this weekend. Throughout Northern Liberties and Old City, inspiring workshops, keynote speakers, and all-around fun times are in store at this two-day fest.
  • Bask in the crisp fall air outdoors during Octoberfest at Dilworth Park. Don’t miss the  new Made in Philadelphia Fall Market showcasing local artisans.
  • Barnes 5th Anniversary Celebration presents Fête the Fifth benefit reception celebrating their fifth anniversary in the city. Eat, drink, and be merry to support the arts. Dress code is festive cocktail attire.
  • Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Inside Out exhibit brings large-scale replicas of favorite works from the Museum’s collection to neighborhoods in and around Philadelphia. This weekend, residents of Inside Out communities past and present get free admission all weekend long.  

Saturday, October 14

  • Bloktoberfest takes over South Street starting at 12 p.m. noon. Bent Knee headlines the entertainment that lasts all afternoon and into the evening. Bring the kids and pups to enjoy a variety of food trucks and craft beers.
  • Venture to the northwest side of the city for the Manayunk Harvest Fest. Go shopping at local boutiques or farmers market, enjoy Main Street’s restaurants or food truck vendors, and listen to live music at Pretzel Park. It all starts at 9 a.m. with a fun run and continues into the evening.
  • Chill Moody* and other artists take the stage at Soul Farm Community Festival. While the event revolves around local performance artists, attendees can also enjoy a pop-up skating rink, mini golf, a craft food marketplace, artist flea market, and more.
  • The 4th annual Conshohocken Beer Festival is back at  A. A. Garthwaite Stadium. Taste beer from more than 50 breweries. Redeem tickets for your wristband(s) at local venues throughout the week for quicker entry. Proceeds benefit Conshohocken Plymouth Whitemarsh Rotary.

Sunday, October 15

  • The Army-Navy Cup rivalry returns to the Philadelphia area for the sixth year at Talen Energy Stadium. Don’t miss this high-energy soccer match starting at 2 p.m.
  • Philly Vegan Pop Flea is back at Tattooed Mom on the second floor. The first 50 attendees  receive a free tote bag! Come out to support the all-vegan local businesses and non-profits.
