Philly’s Grammy Awarding-winning hip-hop icons, The Roots, present their 10th annual Root Picnic on Saturday, June 3. Back for its 10th year, the picnic will take over Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing. We’ve created this guide to get you through the day as smoothly as possible.

Tickets

All tickets are general admission. But if you’re searching for the ultimate Roots Picnic experience, VIP access is available. These exclusive tickets grant access to a VIP patio with main stage view, cash bars, private festival entrance, on-site experience concierge, and snacks. Be sure to come prepared for the day because there will be no re-entry into Festival Pier. The Roots Picnic is a guaranteed party, the event is rain or shine.

Inside Roots Picnic

Without a doubt, The Roots are ready to party this year with an eclectic lineup. The box office and gates open at 11 a.m. and the performances begin at noon.

The 2017 lineup features day-long performances by Lil Wayne, Solange, Jeezy, 21 Savage, Kimbra, Thundercat, and so many more. These acts all lead up to evening’s headliners Pharrell, and of course, The Roots. The Roots stayed true to their Philly roots with performances by local artists, including PNB Rock and Tunji Ige.

More than musical performances will keep festival goers entertained. A new stage has been added to expand the Roots Picnic experience. Gaming expert, IPodkingCarter, will host a Madden and NBA 2k competition. For trendsetters, don’t miss the fashion and lifestyle influencers panel discussion featuring Karen Civil, John Geiger, Tyler Blake, and Scottie Beam.

Venue Information

Avoid delayed entry into Festival Pier by taking notes of the do’s and don’ts. People will not be allowed into the show with coolers, backpacks, camera bags, posters, or purses larger than a clutch. The full list of things to leave at home can be found on Festival Pier’s website.

Festival Pier amenities include on-site ATMs, parking lots, restrooms, smoking permitted area, and much more. While no food or drinks are allowed within the venue grounds, on-site food options and vendors will be stationed throughout the festival.

Transportation

Avoid the city traffic by taking advantage of Philadelphia’s public transportation. SEPTA Eastbound Market-Frankford subway stops within a blocks from Festival Pier. Get off at 2nd and Spring Garden. If driving into the city works best for you, cash parking lot and kiosk street parking are available.
