What’s going on This Week in Philly…

Monday, February 1

  • Learn about economics by acclaimed legal scholar, Judge Gudio Calabresi at the National Constitution Center. Calabresi will be discussing his new book, The Future of Law and Economics: Essays in Reform and Recollection. There will also be a special book sale and autograph signing after the program! Admission is free, but registration is recommended.
  • Go to the Philadelphia Auto Show all week until Sunday, February 7! You’ll catch a glimpse of the most luxurious cars, and be able to test drive some of your favorite car brands such as Kia and Toyota. The Pope-mobile is also going to be inside! Check it out at the Pennsylvania Convention Center!

 

Tuesday, February 2

  • Listen to acclaimed literary scholar Terry Castle talk about her findings of the word femininity in her discussion “No, I’m Not a Woman – I am Not-A-Woman.” She uses examples of the classic and iconic figures Eleanor Roosevelt, Greta Garbo, Hillary Clinton, Margaret Thatcher, and more. This free event is going on at Penn Museum starting at 5:00 p.m.

 

Wednesday, February 3

  • Who doesn’t love an international-inspired happy hour? Head to Valanni from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for a free Pop Party with drink specials and complimentary hor d’oeuvres. Space is limited and reservations are required, so sign up now!
  • Award-winning choreographer Daniel Ezralow is bringing his show to The Prince Theater! Watch a group of men and women perform in a unique series of dance that is a physical narrative. It’s not all about dancing, though. They even throw some humor into their performance as well!

 

Thursday, February 4

  • Learn how to use your leftovers from the week to make a delicious burger! The Free Library of Philadelphia’s Parkway Central Library is hosting the class Build a Better Burger, where you’ll find out how to create homemade veggie burgers while using ingredients to get tastes from all around the globe! Sounds delicious!

 

Friday, February 5

  • Opera Philadelphia is bringing Cold Mountain to the Academy of Music for its East Coast premiere! Watch the gripping love story of honor and determination during the Civil War with a star-studded cast. This play is part of the Kimmel Center, so when you order your tickets, mention the promo code KIMMELCM.
  • SportsRadio 94WIP’s Wing Bowl is back! WIP radio host Al Morganti started this event because he knew the Eagles weren’t going to the Super Bowl anytime soon. So, go to the Wells Fargo Center at 4 a.m. to be apart of the wing-eating action!

Saturday. February 6

  • Go on a mural trolley tour for a special offer by the Mural Arts Program! Take the tour of the Albert M. Greenfield African American Iconic Images Collection, where you’ll learn about the story of Philadelphia and the legendary African-American figures, both past and present. This tour is also taking place on Sunday, February 21!
  • Start Valentine’s Day celebrations a week early at the Orbit Art Gallery! Meet the famous jeweler Emily Keifer while enjoying fine wine and food. This is the perfect opportunity to shop for that special someone!
  • Wear purple, yellow and green, and get your Mardi Gras on at XFINITY Live! With live performances, contests, and drinks specials all night long, you don’t want to miss this party! There’s free parking after 8:30 p.m., and the event starts at 9 p.m. Don’t forget your beads! 

 

Sunday, February 7

  • Celebrate the Chinese New Year at Dilworth Park’s Rothman Ice Rink! There will be performances from the Philadelphia Suns Lion Dance troupe and the University of Pennsylvania’s Chinese Dance Club. Skaters will receive giveaways to wish them good luck in the Year of the Monkey!
  • Watch the Super Bowl while ice-skating at the Blue Cross River Rink at Penn’s Landing! This is for the whole family since there will be two big screens playing the game for sports fans, and arcade games for the kids! Enjoy food from Garces and Franklin Fountain, and drinks with $4 drafts!
