As everyone around the world prepares for New Year’s Eve, right here in Philadelphia we are preparing for New Year’s Day! We are so lucky in Philadelphia to have such a rich history in our New Year’s Day traditions, mainly: The Mummers Parade.
The Kimmel Center, Garces, & Mummers!
The Kimmel Center rings in the New Year with a FREE indoor 2015 New Year’s Day Celebration on Thursday, January 1, 2015 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Enjoy panoramic views of Philadelphia’s historic Mummers Parade on Broad Street while warming up indoors to FREE family friendly activities and a series of concerts on the Kimmel Center’s Plaza stage. On the Plaza level, PECO Bar will be serving soups, salads, sandwiches and chile (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.) with pop up bar (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.) serving all beef hot dogs, chips and soft pretzels.
Garces Events will be providing a complementary FREE Hot Chocolate Lounge on Tier 1 (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) of the Kimmel Center, and a New Year’s Day VIP Experience by Chef Jose Garces (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.) featuring a Distrito Station, Slider Station, Snack Station and Dessert Station with all you can eat + open bar set-up. Industry Brunch at The Piazza
This will be the 1st Annual Industry Brunch New Years Day 12p-5p hosted by Clique Cities and HeyNYE. They are very taking advantage of the heated tent, chairs, and tables from the huge party the night before. This event is not just for industry workers, everyone is welcome to attend. This event is about starting the New Year with a great Day Party Brunch. There is no fee to attend the event as one can come an just pay cash bar without having to purchase a open bar package. There are packages for all-you-can-eat and open bar. Entertainment includes DJ Petey Pablow and DJ Ricky Lee.
Fancy Brigade Finale and MummersFest
As most of us are outside watching the Mummers there is a good inside option. A spectacular Philadelphia’s New Year’s Day tradition heads indoors during the Mummers Fancy Brigade Finale at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Celebrate the New Year all week-long during MummersFest, featuring a behind-the-scenes look as the Mummers put the finishing touches on their costumes and routines. At the 5 p.m. show the Fancy Brigades will battle it out in front of judges for top honors. Prizes will be awarded based on judges’ reviews of choreography and costumes, with an overall winner and captain chosen. This is the perfect way to see all the strutting and sequins without standing outside in the cold, so secure you seat today.
