Here’s whats going on this week in Philly…

Monday, May 12th

  • American Mule Cocktail Competition – Presented by Tito’s Vodka and You’ve Changed at Jerry’s in Northern Liberties, 10 local bars will be offering their variations on the classic Moscow Mule cocktail from 8 pm to 12 am. Guests can imbibe in $5 cocktails, enjoy free food, and enter in the raffle drawing!
  • Public Art, Public Theatre – The Association for Public Art’s 142nd Annual Meeting features artist and speaker Jody Pinto, a renowned collaborative  designer of public spaces and teacher at PAFA. Tickets are $25 for non-members; free for students and artists.

Tuesday, May 13th

  • Science After Hours – Costumes are encouraged for this over 21 after hours whodunnit mystery party at the Franklin Institute. Discover how crimes are solved and what happens to a body postmortem in a hilarious gruesome live performance and interactive a murder mystery game.
  • Dear Mom, A New Play – Treat your mom to a special performance at the Penn’s Landing Playhouse, inspired by actual letters written by daughters to their mothers. Tickets are $35 – 45, and the show runs on Tuesdays and Wednesdays through June 4th.

Wednesday, May 14th

  • Philadelphia Orchestra SingIN – Vocalists and classical music enthusiasts are welcomed to sing-along with the orchestra to selections from Handel’s “Messiah”. Guests can download the music in advance or bring their own score to the performance at 6:30 pm.
  • HAIM at the Tower – There are only a few tickets left for HAIM’s show at the Tower Theatre at 8 pm. See this three-piece female rock band perform music from their latest album, “Days Are Gone”, for $32 tickets.

Thursday, May 15th

  • Night Market – The Food Trust’s highly anticipated open air night market comes to Old City from 6 to 10 pm. Enjoy bites from a record-breaking 85 participating restaurants and food trucks, while being serenaded by live funk and soul music by Johnny Showcase and Left Lucy Cabaret.
  • Evening in Franklin Square – Celebrate the warm weather with an annual night of cocktails, dinner, dancing and auctions at Franklin Square. Presented by Historic Philadelphia and Parx Casino, festivities will begin at 5:30 pm.

Friday, May 16th

  • CANstruction – View large-scale sculptures made of canned food in the Shops at Liberty Place’s design competition with pieces from young architects, designs and philanthropists. The exhibit will be on display from the 10th through 18th, and the A’CAN’amy Awards will be held on the 17th.
  • Picnic at the Pier – Picnic at the Race Street Pier with family and friends from 6 to 10 pm. The Park will be transformed into a public picnic grounds with blankets, pillows, music, lawn games, and free food and drinks.

Saturday, May 17th

  • 2nd Annual Preakness at the Piazza – Catch the 139th Preakness stakes at the Piazza at Schmidt’s with a fashion party to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Come dressed in your best derby attire including bow ties, sundresses and big hats, and indulge black eyed susan cocktails and a best-dressed competitions including Best Hat, Best Couple, Best Shoes and Best-Dressed Male and Female. *
  • 2014 Fight for Air Walk – Join the American Lung Association in a 3-mile walk through Old City and Headhouse Square to help raise awareness for lung disease and fight for clean air. The money raised will help fund lung research, programs for lung disease, tobacco prevent, and clean air advocacy.
  • Kildare’s Manayunk Craft Beer and Irish Whiskey Festival – For $30, enjoy over 40 brews on tap and 10 different Irish whiskeys from 1 to 5 pm. There will be exclusive menu samplings from Kildare’s, a VIP raffle and pre-party, and a custom take-home drinking glass.
  • Everyone is Italian at least once a year during the Italian Market Festival.  Head over to the nations oldest outdoor market on Saturday or Sunday for the Annual Procession of the Saints, live entertainment, and of course food!

Sunday, May 18th

  • MM2 Modern Dance at The Porch – The MM2 Modern Dance Company takes their performance of BREATH to The Porch at 30th Street from 1 to 2 pm. Rain date is scheduled for July 13th – see the full program of events here.
  • Art in the Open – The banks of the Schuylkill River will be filled with artwork from over 30 artists for a three-day event that allows visitors to interact with the designers, hear about their creative process and watch them at work.
  • Phillie Phanatic Birthday Bash – Catch the Phils in their third game against the Cincinnati Reds for an afternoon match at 1:35. Celebrate the Phillie Phanatic’s birthday with a visit from special guests, Zooperstars!
