Monday, August 19th

  • Dollar Dog Night – Come out and support the Phillies with Ryne Sandberg as interim manager when the team plays the Colorado Rockies. Don’t worry, Hatfield Franks’ Dollar Dogs will ease the pain.
  • Green Business for Latinas Workshop – This free workshop from the Small Business Administration and the Greater Philadelphia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce teaches what green businesses are, and how Latinas can start their own! Register online or call the Women’s Bureau at 215-861-4864.
  • Brew & Chew – This month’s 2 hour craft beer open bar at Cavanaugh’s Rittenhouse features Terrapin Beer. Apps are included with your ticket ($25)!

Tuesday, August 20th

  • Best of Philly party – Celebrate with PhillyMag on the 40th anniversary of their yearly “Best of Philly” issue at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. General Admission tickets are sold out, but VIP access for $125 are still available!
  • Beta Hi-Fi Emerging Music Festival – The World Cafe Live is showcasing over 25 emerging local songwriters at this week’s festival – for free. The show starts at 7 pm upstairs, so you can grab dinner and drinks while deciding which new artists will be making it onto your iPod.

Wednesday, August 21st

  • Dropkick Murphys with Swingin’ Utters and BarRoom Heroes at the Mann Music Center
  • Tribute to Elliott Smith at World Cafe Live
  • Twin Lobster Dinner – With summer winding down, it’s your second-to-last chance to make good on Oyster House’s Wednesday night dinner special: two steamed lobsters, corn on the cob, and drawn butter for just $26.
  • A Tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. – Linda Humes shares the legacy of MLK, alongside Rosa Parks and Marion Anderson, for the anniversary of his “I Have A Dream” speech, given August 28, 1963. Accompanied by master percussionist, Sanga of the Valley, Linda’s hour-long performance at 11 am at the Penn Museum is one for all ages.

Thursday, August 22nd

  • One of Philly PR Girl’s FAVORITE events of the year, Diner En Blanc!  It’s a pop up picnic & registration is closed.  There’s always next year…
  • One More Time: A Tribute to Daft Punk – For those 18+ at The Troc. Doors open at 8, the show starts at 9 pm.
  • Liquid Nitrogen Demonstrations – Educators from the Franklin Institute show off some “chilling science” with liquid nitrogen in Sister Cities Park (18th & the Parkway) at 11 am.

Friday, August 23rd

  • Commonwealth Classic Theatre Company presents “Macbeth” – Shakespeare’s bloody classic comes to Drexel’s URBN Annex Black Box Theater. Tickets are $15, or $12.50 for students and seniors.
  • John Mayer: “Born and Raised” tour – More than a year after his fifth album’s release, but better late than never! At the Susquehanna Bank Center with opener Phillip Phillips.
  • allTURNatives: Form + Spirit – Old City’s Center for Art in Wood hosts the grand finale exhibition for the 2013 International Turning Exchange program. This free exhibit reflects each resident fellow’s experiences, utilizing three-dimensional work with accompanying photos, essays, films, and other documentation.

Saturday, August 24th

  • Sounds of Gospel Concert – Nationally-acclaimed gospel artists to perform inspirational and uplifting gospel, hymns, and songs of praise at Penn’s Landing from 3 to 9 pm.
  • Pop Culture & Cars Exhibit – Hershey’s Antique Automobile Club of America Museum recreates popular culture items alongside cars of the 1950s-70s. Think James Bond, drive-in movies, Jimi Hendrix and Elvis Presley, sock hops, poodle skirts, black lights, Saturday Night Fever, and more! All tickets are under $10.
  • City Fit Girls Wellness Retreat – If you’re a young, professional woman looking to lead a healthy lifestyle, consider joining in this one-day fitness retreat from 9:30 am to 3 pm. It’s only $15 to participate in fitness sessions, mind/body workshops, motivational speakers, giveaways, and more.
  • Over the Edge with Autism Speaks – What would you do to help raise money for children and families affected by autism? Would you rappel off the roof of the 22 story Hyatt Regency in Penn’s Landing? Autism Speaks is looking for a few good charitable daredevils, as well as an audience on the ground below all day Saturday.

Sunday, August 25th

  • Philly Naked Bike Ride – It’s that time of year! Grab a bike and ditch your clothes, but first check out the website for tips if you’re feeling nervous, photo policy, and sign up to find out the starting location.
  • Modern Women at PAFA – Presented in conjunction with The Female Faze: Women Artists Making Their World, modern works by notable female painters and sculptors, such as Georgia O’Keefe and Mary Cassatt, are on exhibit at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
