Philly Fashion Takes Over February

In the midst of this frosty weather, the city can thankfully look forward to the semi-annual fashion events taking over Philadelphia. The month of February has had some of the finest events!

First up for the Philly PR Girl team was the 13th Annual Women of Substance and Style event at the renowned Rittenhouse Square boutique, Joan Shepp.  On February 13, guests stopped by the store to celebrate Black History Month and honor women who have made excellent achievements.  You can ensure that noted fashionistas were in attendance, including Rakia Reynolds (in an amazing purpled dress), Antoine Johnson from House of Talent PA, fashion blogger Ian Michael Crumm, TV Host/Singer Kharisma McIlwaine, and many more.

Next on the agenda was Showroom 77 featuring fashion designer Michael Thomas’ latest collection .  The pieces were truly impressive and the overall concept of Showroom 77 is such a wonderful idea.

The Accessories Party officially kicked off Philadelphia Fashion Week on February 21.  Many local artists and brands showcased their jewelry, footwear, and cosmetics collections.  One of our favorites was Davines, the all natural beauty line, available at I Say Yes Salon and Spa in Delanco, NJ.  If you’re a fan of funky and eccentric jewelry, look no further than Game Jewelry that features bracelet and earrings made from LEGO pieces.  Also, a BIG thanks to Door Bella who offered express gel manicures all night!

Philly PR Girl tries to support local businesses as often as possible, so naturally we had to stop by the anniversary parties for two awesome boutiques.  First up was Kembrel, which showcases young and upcoming brands.  They celebrated their one year anniversary at their Rittenhouse Square location.  We heard a rumor they will be featuring one of our favorite clothing lines soon, ellelauri.

US*U.S. in Old City also celebrated their one year anniversary this month.   We love this co-op boutique, which currently features 7 designers that all share the design and retail space.  If you haven’t stopped by in a while, meet a newcomer to the coalition of designers,  Katie Yamaguchi, who recently launched her collection here.   The owner, Lele Tran, displayed her new zipper scarves that are beyond trendy – they were flying off the shelves!  (Read all about my Sunday Funday at US*U.S)

The big finale to February fashion was Philly’s Fashion Weeks runway shows. Friday night featured eleven hot designers showcasing their Ready-to-Wear collections.  There were so bright and vibrant colors that made us crave for spring/summer weather, especially LAS Swimwear and Marina Makaron Moscow.  Another favorite was Shavonne Deann who had classic cuts with unique twists.   Saturday night’s Couture runway show started off with a sexy collection from Li Jon Sculpted Couture, which was made entirely from chain materials.  Closet by Cristobal also stood out with its neons – in the clothing and the hair!  Lillie Designs had very feminine looks with owning the sheer trend and mastering pleats and ruffles; all great looks to dress up and feel girly in.

The fast-paced world of fashion is such an exciting whirlwind, and Philly PR Girl cannot wait until September!
