The region’s premier makerspace, NextFab, encourages its community to celebrate Earth Month year-round through the practice of utilizing sustainable resources and shopping thoughtfully to limit environmental impact.
Partnering with Olde Kensington Boutique and several local businesses, NextFab presents the first annual Sustain Your Neighborhood Art and Food Festival on Saturday, May 21, 2022. From 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., attendees of this event can support local, small businesses, and connect with sustainability-focused resources. The festival will feature live music, over 40 local vendors, an activity tent for all ages, and food from the popular Mexican restaurant, Sor Ynez and other local vendors.
Here are a few eco-friendly shops to expect:
- Ray Daly of Ray’s Reusables
- Scott Cunningham of Scrapyard Aesthetics
- Jason Lempieri of RethinkTANK
- Kevin B. Huang
In line with NextFab’s fundamental mission to drive artisan entrepreneurs into building their businesses, this festival will showcase the work of the region’s most talented creators. NextFab hopes this event will also pave the way for consumers to shift into a sustainably focused mindset.
“At NextFab we strive to sustain a tangible resource network for the local creative community that includes making meaningful connections between suppliers, people, and opportunities. Through fostering continued learning and sharing best practices, we are building toward an environment that is conscientious of their impact.
Within the studio facilities, we provide solutions for diverting waste by partnering with aligned organizations, like the Resource Exchange, and educating makers on alternative considerations. With the Sustain your Neighborhood Art and Gift Market, we’re hoping to bring together those makers and resources to help impact the local community.” Melissa Guglielmo, North Philadelphia Location Manager & Jewelry Supervisor
