Destruction, casualties, and abandoned homes are the way of life for many Ukrainians right now as their world has been flipped upside down due to Russia’s invasion. As the crisis continues to unfold in Ukraine, people around the world are looking for any outlet to be able to support the country as they struggle to hold strong against the flood of invading troops.
Below are some organizations and businesses here in Philly that we can help support and donate to in these troubled times to show that we in Philly #StandStongForUkraine.
Pierogie Kitchen
Owner and chef Marie Thorpe uses her cooking skills learned from her grandmother to create fantastic Ukrainian dishes at her Roxborough storefront Pierogie Kitchen. This women-owned restaurant is known for its handmade pierogies that are so unique, customers are asking how it tastes like their own grandmother’s recipe. With options to purchase from their regular menu or by wholesale, Pierogie Kitchen is for sure not to disappoint!
Passage Restaurant
Located in the Northeast area of Philadelphia, Passage Restaurant is a perfect business to start at to show your support! Founded by a Ukrainian family, the restaurant serves fresh Ukrainian cuisine along with French and Modern European dishes. The restaurant is open every day of the week, while also serving as a catering hall for all types of functions! With raving reviews of their quality food and excellent service, this is a must-go restaurant. Check out their menu and pictures on Yelp!
Bell’s Market
Take your grocery shopping to Bell’s Market! This Ukrainian-owned market is one of the largest in the Philadelphia and Bucks County area to supply fresh produce, meats, products from all over Europe, and even serves as your pharmacy. The market is staffed with trained and experienced food handlers who are ready to help guide you to the product you’re looking for. And if you can’t make the trip, Bell’s Market offers delivery services to ensure your needs are met!
Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia
The church is inviting any and everyone to donate to their Humanitarian Aid Fund for Ukraine. Unfortunately, many of the buildings and homes in Ukraine have been destroyed by the strike of opposing troops moving forth into their country, leaving many Ukrainians stranded. The given donations will go straight to restoring Ukraine’s infrastructure back to its original beauty. Go to the church’s website to make your donation now!
United Ukrainian American Relief Committee (UUARC)
For over 75 years, UUARC has helped thousands of people through unfortunate and unforeseen conditions and is now turning its focus to helping Ukraine. The committee is collecting cash donations and is asking for supply donations as well, so they can be shipped to Ukraine for immediate use. You can head over to their website to see the full list of supplies and how you can donate!
So, Philly, it’s our time to #StandStrongWithUkraine and support Ukraine through this devastating catastrophe. A simple donation or even supporting a local Ukrainian business goes a long way to helping those who have been stripped of everything.
