Happy Monday and welcome to a new week of #ThisWeekInPhilly ! This week we’re celebrating Earth Day! There are so many in-person events (outdoor and indoor) happening as we begin to experience some normalcy! It’s also a great week for family time and we’ve listed so many family-friendly events this week! From food trucks to love songs, this week is going to be a fun one! Keep reading if you want to know more!

April 19th

  • Ever written a love song? Well, now you and your family can at the Love Song Writing Workshop for Families! You and your family are invited to a virtual session, with singer/songwriter Vince Anthony, where you’ll learn to write a song! This is the perfect opportunity to enjoy some family time and express your love for one another! The virtual event is free and all you have to do is register!  
  • Equity is always an important topic of discussion! The Collaborative will host four talks throughout the year focusing on the relationships between race, design, and development! Equity Talks: Community, Agency, and Resilience is the second public conversation in this Collaborative series. Five of Philly’s Asian American leaders will discuss the impact of planning and designing. This will take place from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.! Register for your ticket today!  

April 20th 

  • #ThisWeekInPhilly, you are invited to a dialogue on art and public space with Paul Farber and Michelle Angela Ortiz. The Portland Parks Foundation, Converge 45, Regional Arts & Culture Council and Portland Art Museum presents “Cleanse: Art and Public Space with Paul Farber and Michelle Angela Ortiz.” The free event is scheduled to take place at 12 p.m. via Zoom. Donations are appreciated. 
  • It’s time for the Flavors of Philly! Come discover the amazing foods that Philly is known for while getting a taste of our history and culture! This tasty tour will take place in the heart of Philly and will include five stops. Get ready to try our famous food like the iconic  Philly Cheesesteak and soft pretzels at the Reading Terminal! The tour is from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. and masks are required!

April 21st

  • The Switch Up Zone presents the Reggae Vs. Hip-Hop Spring Fest! The event will include pop-up shops (where you can support small Black-owned businesses), networking, food, drinks, and of course music! Prepare to dance and have a good time from 7 p.m. to midnight! Masks are required at the events as it adheres to CDC guidelines!
  • Guess what?! The Franklin Institute is offering free admission from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.! That’s right! Gather your friends and family and come down to one of Philly’s greatest museums to experience famous exhibitions, special programs, and themed activities all for free! These “Target Community Nights” will take place every third Wednesday of the month and are sponsored by Target! During these nights, guests can park in the garage for only $6!! 

April 22nd

  • It’s Philly Theatre Week! Philadelphia Theatre presents a week of celebration of artists, organizations, and audiences that have contributed to Philly being “one of the most vibrant theatre regions in the nation.” This year, the event will include 75 virtual performances, theatre films, audio plays, outdoor events, and more! Theatre week is from April 22 – May 2, and tickets are free, $15, or $30!
  • Happy Earth Day! Celebrate Earth Day with Paint With A Twist! In the session, you’ll paint a piece called “Earth Day Afternoon Glow!” The event will be from p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets will include all painting supplies! Grab your friends and enjoy a fun girls or guys night out in Philly’s Jenkintown area! 

April 23rd

  • Are you looking to have a date night but can’t find affordable childcare? Come to Family FriDate! At 6 p.m., families arriving at One For All will be split up into children and adult groups! The children will go to the studio space for fun and games while the adults stay in the gallery for a night of wine and painting. Sounds like a deal right?! Even if you don’t bring the children, you can still enjoy a nice adult night out! Purchase your ticket today
  • The YMCA is celebrating the opening of their Doylestown expansion, a new pool in Warminster, Healthy Kids Day and summer camp kickoff throughout the weekend on Friday night and Saturday afternoon with the Spring Fling Weekend! You and your family can visit multiple YMCA locations (listed in the link provided) for fun events all weekend! Check out the details on each event!

April 24th

  • Linvilla Orchards is inviting food trucks back to the grounds this spring! The Spring Food Truck Frenzy will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will take place rain or shine. In addition to all the tasty food, the outdoor festival will have music, hayrides, pony rides and face painting! Read more about what to expect here!
  • Chestnut Hill Library invites you to a free, fun family-friendly event to celebrate Earth Day at the Library Garden! Explore the garden, check out the new Horticulture Collection and participate in activities! The event will include a book giveaway for kids, musical entertainment, plant cuttings donation and swap station, story time readings, and so much more! Register today!
