Summer is still heating up as we welcome the beginning of August. With fun restaurant events, glamorous charity soirees, and First Friday in the city, there’s no shortage of things to do this week in Philly! Tag your photos out and about on social media with #ThisWeekInPhilly. 

Monday, July 29
  • Join La Roca for an exciting evening filled with succulents, cacti, tequila, and creativity. Tickets include three cacti and succulents, stones, moss, and upcycled-hand cut tequila bottle for your personalized design. Plus, it also comes with a margarita!

Tuesday, July 30

  • DVLF’s Our Night Out brings a fun, summer luau theme to this month’s event benefiting GLSEN Philadelphia. Head to Bok Bar for this social networking party of LGBT professionals, allies, and friends while learning about non-profit organizations that provide value to the local LGBT community.
  • Calling all business owners, leaders, professionals, and entrepreneurs of any industry! Check out Cocktails and Conversations, a networking event about adding value to others. Share great tips and tricks to help you grow both personally and professionally.
Wednesday, July 31
  • Franklin Square celebrates its official teenage years with a 13th Birthday Splash, presented by PECO. They’ll be debuting a brand new fountain show, with the inaugural viewing at 12:30pm, complete with a birthday cake! 
  • Happy Birthday, Harry Potter! City Tap House University City is celebrating our favorite wizard with a movie marathon, costume contest, and raffles for great prizes. Try themed food and drink specials like butterbeer, pumpkin pasties, and more.
  • The Philadelphia Film Society is bringing you a JAWsome night at their Center City film center. Spend your summer night viewing the classic Steven Spielberg movie, Jaws. 
Thursday, August 1
  • The Jason Thompson Foundation,* founded by the eponymous NBA player, hosts their annual Summer Soirée at Union Trust. Advocating for heart-healthy lifestyles, the charity’s planned a night filled with music, drinks, world-class food stations, a silent auction, networking, and more.
  • Make your way to BB&T to see county’s biggest romantic, Thomas Rhett! He’s bringing his new Very Hot Summer Tour to the Philadelphia area.
Friday, August 2
  • Instagram shots and rosé, no way! During First Fridays in Old City, Photo Pop Philly* is partnering with Pinot Boutique to provide samples of delicious frosé included in all tickets purchased for this day.
  • Bartram’s Garden brings you the Lighthouse Parade and Glow Party, a free evening of dancing and glow-in-the-dark fun. Come dressed in neon colors or white to really shine under the black lights. There will be face painting, giveaways, activities, and the opportunity to observe some nighttime pollinators for National Moth Night! 
  • Our friends at The Bourse invite you to a free First Friday art event! See various talented local artists from around the area and their one-of-a-kind creations, all while surrounded by some of the best food and drink vendors in the city.
Saturday, August 3
  • Be prepared: Philly Free Streets is taking over Broad Street for one whole day. Powered by managed by the city’s Office of Transportation, Infrastructure, & Sustainability, this program is a people-powered initiative inviting people to walk, bike, roll, and play. This means Broad Street will be temporarily closes streets to cars from Arch Street to Butler Street. 
  • Filmmakers from all over the Philadelphia, PA area will compete in The 48 Hour Film Project. This challenge sets creative minds to the test by revealing the required content elements AT kick off. Then, teams have only two days to write, shoot, and edit their short films. The winning Philly film will go up against those from around the world at Filmapalooza 2020… so get signed up today!
  • Animal lovers and yogis are in for a special treat! Pig Yoga is returning to Yoga Hive Philly for ONE last time this summer! Incorporate a Saturday afternoon filled with relaxation and squeals of delight.

Sunday, August 4
  • On behalf of National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day, The Famous 4th Street Cookie Company is naturally celebrating in a big way. For one day only though, they’re giving away free chocolate chip cookies! Special discounts will be available all weekend to raise money for Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House. 
  • Philadelphia’s 2nd Street Festival returns for the ultimate summer block party in the streets of Northern Liberties. Enjoy dozens of live music throughout the neighborhood on various stages. Find dozens of food vendors, artists, crafts, games, street performers, and so much more!
  • Join the Phillies as they honor the legends who were part of the 2009 National League Championship team! Be sure to arrive to the ballpark early to catch the special pre-game event before they play the White Sox at 1:05pm.
