The Kimmel Center Presents Aladdin

In the heat of summer, head to the Kimmel Center for an unforgetting trip on a magic carpet ride. From June 13 to July 1, the Broadway rendition of Aladdin is in Philadelphia. Prepare for an evening filled with the brilliance of the acting, dancing, costumes, and set design.

From beginning to end, the dazzling production keeps you on the edge of your seat. The performance truly embodies all the favorite moments from the 1992 animated Disney film. This  cast brings to life the perfect adaptation of the original characters, fulfilling all of what we loved about them in the movie.

Adding a more contemporary stance to traditional views, Princess Jasmine (Isabelle McCalla) has been modified into a modern day feminist. She’s passionate about her equal rights to marry whomever she chooses. Aladdin/Prince Ali (Clinton Greenspan) is just as dreamy and sneaky, as he seeks after the princess’ love under the disguise of a prince. The jaw-dropping “A Whole New World” scene lives up the magic that’s expected. Audience members are left in awe when Princess Jasmine and Aladdin are swept off their feet into the stars.

Tears of joy for the romantic moments quickly transitioned into tears of laughter whenever the Genie (Michael James Scott) appeared on stage. In his scenes, Genie steals the show with his high energy, comedic charm, dance moves, and performance chops. Dancing circles around Aladdin, Genie’s iconic “Friend Like Me” scene is a fan favorite moment of the show. Dripping in gold, the set is certainly a sight for sore eyes. Needless to say, whenever Genie is on stage, the audience knows they’re in for a wild ride. A lot like the Robin Williams’ rendition, Genie in this Broadway rendition is full of life in every way.

Without a dull moment throughout the entire show, a phenomenal performance is put on by the entire cast. The ensemble is perfectly in sync and holds their own whenever there’s an absence of lead characters. Aladdin is a good time for the entire family to enjoy. The music, dance numbers, and hilarious characters will ensure an evening of laughter. Aladdin is showing at The Academy of Music through July 1. Tickets are still available online at kimmelcenter.org.
